Lorne leaves an ache in our hearts that will last forever and he will be forever in our hearts.  
I am saddened by his loss and often think fondly of the fun times I had with him and Nettie whenever I came to Calgary for visits with Mom and for dog shows.  He was a really great cousin.  He will be dearly missed and my heart aches for your loss but now that there is a new star in the sky all we need to do is look up.  Ciao Lorne.   Three bells for you.

This poem touches anyone..
Thoughts of an old friend..
An old man’s like a sailing ship, 
With weather beaten sails..
And when her planks have given way, 
She sinks beneath the gales..

Still we have the memory of when she used to soar,
The storms she’s fought, 
The peaceful times,
Her sails would light the shore..

She’s sailed her course and served her time,
And touched the hearts of men..

So when in need, just close your eyes,
And watch her sail again..

It is in all of us to leave a treasure trove of loving memories behind when our time comes to pass..

It is Love that will last forever and a day...

I always admired grandpa for being a fireman and Chief, such a courageous and caring profession to have. 
I still remember when he retired I was lucky to receive some of the pins he wore on his uniform.  
I still have them. They sit with mine.

I was thinking of him the first day I joined my local volunteer department, I was thinking of him the first fire I attended, fought and defeated. 
I was thinking of him the first car accident, cardiac  arrest, baby in distress, fractured bone, and every hysterically distraught family member who needed to be consoled at a horrible scene. 

I was thinking of him when I was promoted to Captain from Lieutenant. 
I was so proud to be like him.
My whole time with the GVFD was inspired by him.
I was proud to be able to do the kinds of things that I admired that he did.

I didn't spend much time with him, and didn't know him as much as I would have liked but what I did know of him, he was a hero and a role model. That's how I will always remember him.

I am again thinking of you, and I know you are a hero and a role model where ever you are now.
Rest easy Grandpa.

My mother (Delores) and I are sad to here the news of Lorne. My mom and dad had many fun times with him from fishing in Carsland to the many nights of playing cards. My mother would very much like to get in contact with Lois. She can be reached at 403-282-1666.

Lorne and Nettie lived across the street from my family on Cochrane Road.  I spent many visits with them over the years and our parents shared a common Xmas card that we sent back and forth each year with the senders house pic on the front. You might say the first recyclable card!  The Fleming’s invited us up to their Gull Lake cabin and Lorne made me a mini ocean cruiser which I attempted to sail on the Lake but let go of the chord and it sailed away much to my distress and tears!  Undaunted Lorne made me a second one which I protected.  We were also involved when the Symons BBQ Ranch was launched. Such good memories of Lorne who was a big influence on me growing up! One of the best fire officers I had the pleasure of working with. I learned so much from Lorne and carried his mentoring throughout my career. Great times joining him on a couple of memorable fishing excursions and again, learned from the master. Rest in peace Lorne.

Seeing Dad in October, 2019, we had hugged, felt compelled to give and get another hug, 
Used this moment to say “ we love you, Dad.”
To which he replied, “ me, too.”
That is a memory that we will cherish..
