Lovine Erhardt passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, and went to be with her Lord and Saviour on April 26, 2022 at age 88. She is survived by her 3 sons, Noel (Crystal), Jason (Jocelyn), Jared (Jennifer); her 10 grandchildren, Braden, Brianna (Ben), Lucas (Naomi), Victoria (Ryan), Karissa (Oliver), Alexandra, Courtenay, Joel, Madison, Spencer; her 7 great grand-children; her sisters Carol (Don) and Judi and their families; and her sister-in-law Judy (Darrel). Lovine is predeceased by her beloved husband Jerry, grandson Christian, parents Jim and Marion Landeryou, brother Garth and infant brother George.
Lovine was born in Calgary on November 6, 1933 and was blessed to be raised in a God-fearing, Christ-centered home. She began her teaching career in the Yukon and later moved back to Calgary. In the summer of 1959, she married Jerry and they started a family. Even as a young mother, she was able to continue her career, initially as a substitute teacher. She had a passion for the challenging grades of 7, 8 and 9 and taught Language Arts in many schools in Calgary throughout her career. She cared very much about her students, spending hours marking and providing detailed, written feedback on her students’ essays. Both school teachers, Lovine and Jerry had summers off and enjoyed spending much of them making special memories camping with their three boys. The family life that she created revolved around her boys where she provided opportunities for music training and growth in their faith in Jesus. She loved being the queen of her castle.
Lovine was always passionately involved in the life and ministry of her church. She was the Sunday School Superintendent for the younger children and also the teacher and mentor for College and Career. She invested in their lives and in many others, always making everyone feel important and included. She was also the director of the senior choir for many years, as well as the junior and kids choirs. Always so creative, she wrote musical productions for her church, the most notable entitled ‘The Matchmaker’. Somehow, she even found time to paint a Hawaiian mural in the tiki room that she created in her home.
Lovine also very much appreciated classical music, looking forward to evenings with her family at the Calgary Philharmonic and at chamber music concerts. Even in her later years, she always had CBC radio on in the background.
Lovine’s greatest heartbreak was the loss of her beloved husband Jerry at age 56, after a 5 year battle with cancer. She remained living in Calgary and took opportunities to join friends and family on short-term missions’ trips. Her passion for missions led her to an opportunity to move to Indonesia as a missionary partner. For many years, she served in numerous capacities at Bandung International Church. She had a profound love for the people of Bandung and was a beautiful blessing to so many in those years. Upon returning to Canada, she moved to Toronto ,which became her final home-base.
Lovine was a devoted grandmother, beloved by all her grandchildren, passionately involved in their lives, and their greatest champion and prayer warrior. A life well-lived, Lovine made a lasting impact on so many with her loving and generous heart, her unwavering willingness to help and support, and her spirited personality. She will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service will be held at South Calgary Funeral Centre, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate) on May 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
