Luise was born in the village of Rosenfeld, Ukraine. Life was not easy. In March 1944, she and her mother began the 3 month walk from Ukraine to Poland. On her 20th birthday, she arrived in Germany. They were reunited with her sister and her family. In 1956 it was decided that the family would immigrate to Canada. She always said this was the best choice she ever made.
She met Werner in Calgary, and they were married soon after. Soon a daughter and a son were added to the family. Their life together was filled with love and adventure. They travelled all corners of the world. Luise was a founding member of the German choir Singgemeinschaft of Calgary. Things were always better with a song in your heart and food in your stomach. Luise and Werner’s home was frequently filled with family, old friends and new friends alike, where food, drink and ‘gemuetlichkeit’ were always served. Luise was completely thrilled to become Oma to Phillip and Alexandra. She was special Uhr Oma to Sadie. Luise’s capacity to accept others and invite them into her life never ended.
She leaves family and many good friends to mourn her loss. The family is thankful to Dr. R Hassen for the many years of compassionate care, and Dr. Davis and nurse Kira for their kindness in her last days.
As per Luise’s wishes, no services will be held. Should you choose to do so, remember Luise by having a picnic with your loved ones.
