Marcia Gervais (née Dumont), aged ninety-three, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta. Born on November 26, 1932, in St-Laurent-Grandin, Saskatchewan, Marcia lived a full and vibrant life rooted in family, community, and enduring passions.
Marcia was the beloved wife of Rod Gervais, who predeceased her in February 1995. Their marriage was a true partnership filled with love and shared devotion to their family. Even after Rod’s passing, Marcia carried his memory with grace and strength, while holding onto the hope of one day reuniting with him.
She was a devoted mother to her daughters, Anita, and Marcella (Frank), and took immense pride in her role as grandmother to Kirsten, Joel (Kaylee), Cole, Lionel, Shelby, and Tessa. Nothing filled her heart more than supporting her grandchildren through every milestone—school concerts, sporting events, graduations, and a wedding—always there in the crowd or celebrating them lovingly from afar. Her joy only deepened with the arrival of her great-grandchildren—Connor, Tucker, and Max—who brought light and laughter into her later years.
Marcia loved spending time with those closest to her. She spent countless hours playing bingo with Anita and Marcella, as well as sisters Claire, Felicite, and her long-time friend Chris Caron. Her bond with son-in-law Frank was especially meaningful—a relationship marked by mutual respect and affection.
Marcia’s life was rich with connections, and her relationships with family members were deeply cherished. She is remembered with deep affection by sisters Claire, Lucille, Eunice (Alan), Felicite; brother Brian (Donna); as well as sisters-in-law Edith, Fran, Hilda, Phyllis; brother-in-law Isaac (Wendy); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Aimée and Marguerite; brother Don; in-laws Patrice and Yvonne; sisters-in-law Claire, Patricia, Susan; brothers-in-law Art, Danny, Ed, Gary, Leo, Lionel, Lucien, Tom, Wilf; nephews Brandon, Clarence, Larry, Sydney, Wayne; and niece Elaine.
Travel was one of the great joys of her life, and she cherished every chance to explore—whether it was somewhere close to home in Canada or a far off place she had only dreamed about. What made those journeys special was not just the destinations, but the people she shared them with. Winning a trip to Europe was a moment she never forgot, especially because she experienced it with Rod, and Chris and Dick Caron. Then there were the many last minute escapes to Reno and Las Vegas with Rod and her sister Claire—trips filled with laughter, stories, and the kind of memories that stay warm in a family forever.
She had a deep love for animals throughout her life, and caring for Marcella’s beloved dogs, Benji and Ginger, brought her great happiness. Whether it was through travel adventures with family or quiet moments at home surrounded by loved ones—human or furry—Marcia approached each day with gratitude and warmth.
Naturally competitive yet ever gracious, Marcia found immense joy in games of cards, Sticks, Scrabble, and Cribbage, relishing both the challenge and the camaraderie. She started golf in mid-life—a pastime she embraced with enthusiasm—and continued to play well into her later years. Country music was the soundtrack of her life—whether playing on the radio or through her cherished cassette tapes and CDs. A woman of limitless enthusiasm and unwavering dedication, Marcia rarely missed a Calgary Flames game. She cheered passionately from home and took immense joy in sharing her team pride with everyone around her.
Her legacy is one of resilience, joy in simple pleasures, fierce devotion to family both near and far, and a heart that welcomed all who knew her.
May Marcia’s memory bring comfort to those who loved her so dearly.
