Margaret (Beth) Elizabeth Johnston

Daughter of the late David and Margaret Bowyer, Beth was born and raised in Maple Creek, SK. She was the youngest sibling of beloved sisters Peg, Rita and Eunice. She enjoyed spending summers at the family cabin in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, SK and maintained her childhood friendships for many decades, always travelling home for holidays, special occasions or just to say hello.

Beth moved to Calgary, AB following high school and studied to be a Secretary at Mount Royal College. She met her beloved Cal in 1956 when they both worked at Haddon, Davis and Brown Consulting Engineers. They were married in 1960 and attended the Grey Cup in Vancouver, BC for their honeymoon. They purchased their first home in Varsity where they resided for 40 years, raising their four children as active members of the community and the Calgary Winter Club. Beth had a love for family, friends and good times. She had a passion for all sports, including curling, baseball, hockey and football. When not playing cards or reading, she enjoyed coffee time with friends at Market Mall.

Later in life, her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She was always available for a chat on the phone at all hours of the day and night and cherished family get-togethers.

She was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend Cal in 2006. Beth is survived by her children; Grant, Karen (Brad) Reid, Jeff (Lisa) and Darren (Nicole), and her five grandchildren; Reece, Samuel, Cade, Finley and Calla. She leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses who compassionately cared for Beth over the last few years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 4th Street NW on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
