Maria (van Mourik) van Middelkoop

Maria was born in Bunnik, Holland on April 6, 1926, second oldest of fourteen children. She was married to Theodorus van Middelkoop on November 27, 1952. They arrived in Canada on June 23, 1954. She was a huge sports fan, however she was especially fond of the Calgary Flames and her Dutch Soccer team the “Oranje”. Her main passion was spending time with her nine children, fourteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Maria is lovingly remembered by her children, Ted (Gisele), John (Marilyn), Connie (Dave), Bob, Ben (Barb), Ralph (Donna), Yvonne (Marv), Erica, Tania (Geoff); grandchildren, Brad (Josie), Greg (Anne Marie), Teri-Lyn (Warren), Mark (Sue), Ryan, Kristen (Francis), Jori, Keath (Rachel), Patrick, Nick, Michael(Andrea), Chad (Nicole) and Chayce; great grandchildren, Elliot, Autumn, Rory, Ian, Bryce, Abigayle, Dominic and Mitchell.

She is also survived by her brother Joop van Mourik and her sister Truus van Bieman both from Holland.

Maria was predeceased by her husband Theodorus van Middelkoop and her granddaughter Amanda.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Dave Ferguson officiating.
