Marnie was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1936, and attended school there until she moved to Ponoka to train as a Registered Nurse at the Ponoka Hospital. She lived, worked and married in Ponoka and raised her three boys there until she moved to Calgary due to health reasons in 2016. While working at the General Hospital, GreatWest Feeds and the Ponoka RCMP detachment to support her family, she always found time to volunteer to make Ponoka a better place. She was quoted while accepting a local volunteer award; “volunteers lead with hearts, souls and minds”. Ponoka Minor Hockey, IODE, Toastmasters, the Ponoka Museum and Heritage Board, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Ponoka Town Council were just a few of her community commitments. She believed in giving more and taking less. She also believed everyone had a special talent; they sometimes just needed a little help to find it.
That said, Marnie’s biggest passion in life was her three boys and their families. She will be greatly missed by her sons Bill Wilkins (Kelly) and granddaughter Jenna (Pete) with great-granddaughters Daelyn and Parker, granddaughter Madison (Craig) and great-granddaughter Maris; Doug Wilkins (Sharon) and granddaughters Stefanie and Elizabeth and grandson Jesse (Alexa); Rick Wilkins (Paula) and grandsons Liam, Nate and Carter.
Marnie is survived by her younger brother Fred Carse of Edmonton. She was predeceased by her mother Margaret and father William, her brothers Bob and Bill and her sister Ruth.
The family would like to thank the heroic caregivers at Bow View Manor, their compassionate care of Mom is sincerely appreciated.
A family service will be held at a later date.
