July 23, 1919 – August 22, 2012
It is with extreme sadness that we announce that our Mom, Martha Kittler, passed away peacefully at her residence at Garrison Green, Calgary on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 as a result of several age-related health issues in her 93 year. Mom (Martha Reich) was born July 23, 1919, in Arzis Besserabia, Romania and married Erhard Kittler in Tarutino in 1936. The family immigrated to Canada in 1953. She is fondly remembered by her daughter Elizabeth (Ralph) Spanier, son Harry (Valerie) Kittler, daughter-in-law Linda Kittler; grandchildren Gordon Spanier, Lorie (Brian) Gibson, Susan Kittler, Jason Kittler, Ron Kittler, Ken Kittler, Daniel Kittler; and great grandchildren Taylor Spanier, Jake Spanier and Karen Kittler. Martha was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Erhard, and sons Heinz and Dan. Martha attacked all her ambitions and tasks with great enthusiasm, and with a quest for quality, whether it was cooking or skills in knitting, sewing and gardening. Martha and Erhard won a Calgary Garden tour contest. She worked hard with Erhard to make Erki Furniture a successful business entity. In later life Martha and Erhard thoroughly enjoyed travel to Hawaii, Mexico and Europe. Family gatherings and celebrations were always enjoyed by Martha, especially Christmas which brought all the family together no matter where they were. She made tortes for every occasion and had many happy times in the garden greenhouse. Outgoing and outspoken, she possessed a great charm that drew people to her side, always on the bright side with her humor and quick wit. Martha had many friends who she valued dearly and as well friends whom she met at Arbour Lake and Garrison Green. We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Catherine McKenna and all the loving and caring people on the third floor at Garrison Green. A Celebration of Martha’s Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W.
