Born in Riverside, New Brunswick, Molly was a woman of quiet courage and adventurous spirit. Shortly after high school, she embarked on an unheard of journey for the time, driving across the country to Calgary with friends. Though she promised her parents she would return home, destiny had other plans. At a local dance, she met Al, they fell in love and Calgary became her home for the rest of her life. Molly and Al shared a beautiful and enduring marriage of 69 years until his passing in 2024.
Molly and Al raised four children who were the center of her world. A devoted mother, she was the steady heartbeat of the family running the household, volunteering at schools, and working outside the home at Aubrey Edwards Real Estate and ATB Bank. She balanced it all with grace and a legendary sense of patience, never losing her temper or her sanity, even while managing the chaos of four growing kids and the constant packing and unpacking of the family camping trailer.
She was the ultimate listener and supporter, checking in with her children weekly throughout their lives to guide them through every trial and tribulation. Molly also shared an incredibly special and lifelong bond with her sister, Muriel. They were a constant presence in each other’s lives, talking on the phone multiple times every day to share stories, laughs, and simple updates of their day.
In her later years, Molly found great peace in her backyard, where she spent countless hours tending to her beautiful flower beds and enjoying the sun from her gazebo with a cup of coffee. She will be remembered as one of the kindest and most loving souls to grace this world, a woman of gentle words whose most extreme reaction to life’s difficulties was a simple, heartfelt “oh dear.”
She leaves behind a legacy of love in her four children: Cindy (Cy), Jeff (Brenda), Judy (Kevin), and Marshall (Tracey); her seven grandchildren: Nicole, Sarah, Dana, Kelly, Charlie, Casey, and Cecilia; and her beloved sister, Muriel.
May she rest in peace, forever sitting in a sun-drenched gazebo in a perfect garden, sipping coffee, enjoying a chocolate muffin, and listening to Jim Reeves sing “I Love You Because.”
The family will gather privately to celebrate and honour her life.
