

Moneca was born on September 29, 1957 in Calgary to Hildegard and Sieghard Hesse. She attended Queen Elizabeth School from Grades 1 to 12. Going on to higher education at University of Calgary, Laval University in Quebec and University of Alberta.
Moneca travelled Europe extensively for a year visiting friends and relatives before starting her 17 year career as a stewardess with Air Canada. She serviced overseas flights to London and Frankfurt. She was fluent in French and German which was a great asset in her job. Most recently Moneca worked for The Bay in Market Mall, Housewares Department, where she was a valued staff member.
As a young girl she played soccer. Some of the activities Moneca enjoyed were hiking, camping, horseback riding, travelling, and singing. She played piano and recorder.
Singing with the German Ladies Choir of Calgary for 22 years and also a short time with the Singgemeinschaft Choir was a highlight of Moneca’s life. She had a beautiful soprano voice that enhanced the choir sound with performances throughout Canada and Europe.
In 1993, Moneca married the love of her life, Jonn Renay, her soulmate, in Kauai, Hawaii. They enjoyed many adventures together for the past 30 years.
Moneca lived life to the fullest with compassion and love. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Moneca is loving survived by her husband, Jonn Renay, mother Hildegard Hesse, brother Norm (Suanne), niece Deven and nephew Nolan as well as uncle Paul Hofer (Barb) and cousins Andrew and Julie (Eddy) Hofer; cousins from Australia Michael (Ruth) Hofer, Imogen, Kirra, Jasmine, Andreas; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends in Germany and Canada.
Moneca is predeceased by her father Sieghard Hesse, grandparents Maria and Andreas Schwachhofer, Magda and Wilhelm Hesse and uncle Helmut Hofer.
A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Markus Zeuch officiating.
A private family interment will follow at a later date.
