I knew Monica when she attended Chico State around 1979/80. She was so bright, kind and just a wonderful person. We met in Europe in the fall of 1980 and traveled around Greece together. We tried to keep in touch but she was terrified of being with someone from the United States. It sounds like she had a wonderful life. That was always all I wanted for her. I’ll miss her very much……Brad

I'm so sorry about Moneca's passing. It was a big shock, is too close to home. 
I remember Moneca helping me choose a wedding gift for my husband at The Bay. Seeing her and the family at Concerts every year was always so much fun and wonderful catching up. 

You will be missed.

Over the many many years she frequented our hair salon for haircuts with John,  whenever she came into the salon it always felt like she was family.  It always put a smile on my face when I saw Moneca’s name in my column.  We had great conversations and her laugh and smile were infectious.  She was that rare combination of intelligence, humour, a zest for life, and a very caring person.  What a truly beautiful person on the inside as well as the outside.  I feel truly privileged to have known her.  Everyone at the salon loved Moneca.  A life cut short far too early, but one that was beautifully lived.  John……. I’ll be here for you anytime in what must seem like a surreal dream at this point.  From all of us at the shop our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers.  Moneca will be missed by everyone.  She was the best❤️

How I will miss my singing neighbour, Moneca.  
Moneca was such a gentle soul, who carried music in her heart.  She always had a kind word to say.  Together, we would giggle when she arrived at choir practice in her favourite, plaid, purple jacket.  One of my fondest memories of Moneca is when on a European choir trip together, on a very rainy afternoon, a group of us landed in to a local coffee shop.  We laughed for many years after that visit at the German coffee names and how they translated to English.  
Rest easy my friend and sing your song loud and proud.

I can’t find the words to express how sorry I (and all my family) are over Moneca’s passing. She was smart and talented, and lived a full, beautiful life. Moneca was always ready and willing to joke, laugh and have fun.

Our parents knew each other before any of us kids were born. And as we grew up, Moneca, Norm, my sisters and I always had fun together. Whenever I think about Moneca and Norm, I remember all the good times we shared. 

When we got together, we were never at a loss for playing games and getting into trouble. Like The Golden Candy Cane game we played where Norm and I were ‘burglar’ partners while my sisters and Moneca made up the other ‘burglar’ team. We would take turns hiding and finding a hidden candy cane. As we searched, we carried lit candles, dripping wax everywhere (much to Hilde’s dismay when she found out). 

In the late summer and fall, we’d be sent outside to pick crabapples in the Hesse’s yard. The chore inevitably morphed into a fun war of pelting each other with hard little apples.

In 1975, unbeknownst to me and my sisters, the Hesse’s were in Germany the same time our family was. What a great surprise to see them. We five were always a mischievous bunch. At the supper table, while grace was being said, we all snickered, and avoided looking at each other so as not to burst out laughing while the ‘grace’ droned on and on for what seemed like hours.

We are so sad over losing Moneca. May you find peace and comfort in knowing that I and all the Rungs share your grief. She was an amazing person and she’ll be missed not only by us but by all her friends and family.

I met Moneca when I sang with the German Ladies choir.  We sang side by side.   Moneca very patiently helped me with the German.   We became good fiends.   I lived in Rocky Ridge which was close to where she lived in Tuscany.  We would walk together a couple times a week.   She took me on some very interesting pathways.    Even when I moved to the country, we would meet in Cochrane and walk.   Moneca loved her coffee and even though I did not like coffee, we often met at some of her favourite coffee places.   I will miss the times we spent together.  A great friend!

Dear John, Hildegard, and family,

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear the news of Moneca’s passing. You are in my thoughts, and I want to express my deepest condolences. Moneca was such a beautiful spirit who exuded such warmth and kindness. Although I’ve not seen her for a long time, I remember fondly my past visits and how much fun she was. Growing up, I saw her as the cool, exciting, and sophisticated cousin who spoke multiple languages, travelled the world, and had a unique flair, sense of style, and artistic taste. How she will be missed by all whose lives she touched with her sweet smile and gentleness! We will dearly miss her lovely voice in the choir. May the Lord hold, sustain  and keep you during this so sad and  most difficult time. May the many wonderful memories also comfort you . I have so many lovely memories of the good times we had on our many choir trips, performances, parties and picnics. How Moneca loved and enjoyed these all.
