We are sad to announce the passing of our mother and dear friend Nancy Jane Cooke after a lengthy illness on November 23, 2011 in Edmonton. Nancy was born January 28, 1929 in Toronto, Ontario. Nancy faced her difficult days with courage and a quiet strength. Mom will be greatly missed by her daughters Barbara Albrechtsons (Eric) of St John’s, Newfoundland and Mary Jane Farrell (Brian) of Edmonton, Alberta. Nancy was predeceased by George Cooke in June 2011, her sons Stephen and Douglas, her parents Raymond Milton Hyde and Mary Theresa Hyde and her brother Raymond Hyde. Nancy leaves behind five grandchildren Jacob Cooke, Kathryn (Luke) Farrell-Morrison, Stephanie Farrell, Daniel Albrechtsons, and Hannah Albrechtsons. Nancy was a devoted mother, grandmother and compassionate friend. Nancy’s first love was her family but she was also an avid volunteer, and craftsperson. Mom was always seen with a book in her hand and exposed her children and grandchildren to the magic of reading, and playing cards. She gave much of her time in her younger years to the IODE. She received much joy from her volunteer positions with the 1988 Winter Olympics and the Kerby Centre for Seniors. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to a charity of your own choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
