Nancy was born on May 1, 1927 to Essie and John Coulter in Portaferry, a small town beside the picturesque Strangford Lough in County Down, Northern Ireland. She was the oldest of four children, her siblings being Jean, John, and George. From an early age, Nancy wanted to be a nurse and travel the world. Around the age of seventeen, Nancy and her friend went to the Royal Hospital in England, completed their nurses training and then decided to travel. Nancy followed her sense of adventure, got as far as Canada and fell in love with the country. She made her way across Canada via Ottawa, Edmonton, and then arrived in Calgary, where she had a great nursing career, made lifelong friends, and met and married Floyd Reynolds. In 1967, they decided to carry on with a different way of life and Nancy retired from nursing and they moved to a farm located between Airdrie and Balzac, Alberta where they lived until 2007. Nancy described this time as a very different life, but a very interesting life. In 2007, they sold their farm and moved back to Calgary and shortly thereafter Floyd was placed in the Bethany Care Centre and passed away in 2014. As Airdrie continued to grow, their farm eventually became a part of the city, and a subdivision as well as a shopping area were named after them… Reynolds Gate.
Nancy was known for her loving, outgoing and cheery personality, along with her very quick wit. While Nancy loved her Canadian home, she still never forgot her Northern Irish roots and remained close to her family in Northern Ireland. She leaves behind family and friends on both sides of the pond who deeply mourn her loss. Nancy was predeceased by her sister Jean and her brother John, and is survived by her brother, George of New Zealand, along with nieces and nephews in both Northern Ireland and New Zealand.
We wish to extend our thanks and gratitude to the staff at Cambridge Manor in Calgary for their kindness and wonderful care they gave Nancy.
Nancy’s final resting place will be with her beloved Floyd in Queen’s Park Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta.
