We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nicola Parrottino on Thursday, November 17th, 2022, peacefully in his home in Calgary. Nicola was born in Albi, Catanzaro, Italy on October 14th, 1936, to Giuseppe Parrottino and Caterina Garcea. He married the love of his life, Caterina Fanti, in March of 1961. In 1974, he risked everything to move his entire family from Italy to Canada. Nicola always said, "I came to Canada with two suitcases, a family of six, and 300 lire in my pocket". He was a hardworking man that always provided for his family. Nicola worked for the City of Calgary for 25 years and loved telling stories about his time there. Even in the evenings, he would help his wife clean buildings to provide a better life for his children. He would do anything for his family, they were his pride and joy.
Nicola had a passion for gardening and grew the best peppers in Calgary. The family never had a shortage of fresh vegetables from his garden, he was very proud of his hard work. When Nicola wasn't gardening, he was fishing and when he wasn't fishing, he was making wine for the whole family to enjoy. It was always a party at the Parrottino residence, Nicola would play the accordion and Caterina would sing, while the whole family danced.
Nicola is lovingly remembered by his four children and their families; Concetta (Gaetano), Giuseppina (Pasquale), Rosanna (Rosalbino), and Giuseppe, and seven grandchildren; Francesca, Marco, Caterina (Alvin), Amanda (Bikila), Adam, Maria (Matthew), Vanessa (Lucas), and one great- grandchild Jahvonny. He is predeceased by his wife Caterina Parrottino, and his two sisters Concetta Arrotta and Marietta Corea.
