Dr. Ormond "Ormie" James Uptigrove went to meet his Savior on June 7th, 2017, surrounded by his beloved wife Freda, son John, and other loving family members. He was born in Calgary, Alberta to Stanley and Mary Anne Uptigrove. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stan and his sister, Uretta (Laurie) King. He is survived by his wife Freda, two sons Jim (Michele), John (Tracy), grandchildren, Brandon, Meghanne, Elise, and Hannah, sister in law, Shirley Uptigrove Friesen (Sandy) and many nieces, nephews, and greats. Ormie felt an early call to the mission field and, after graduating from Prairie Bible Institute in 1952 followed by U of A Medical School in 1958, spent much of his life caring for those in need in rural areas of India (TEAM, Chinchpada Christian Hospital, 12 years) before returning to Canada to a medical practice in Three Hills, Alberta. He was instrumental in establishing the Emmanuel Hospital Association in India with the assistance of other missionaries prior to his return to Alberta, ensuring the continued medical care to the rural regions of India. Later in Three Hills he eventually established a medical clinic to serve the community. After his sons graduated high school, Ormie and Freda returned to the mission field, this time in Haiti (Crossworld, LaPointe, 4 years), and Cameroon (NAB Missions, Banso, 6 months) and upon retirement from the medical profession, he and Freda made several trips to Brazil to assist with various construction projects. In recent years, he was an active member at Brentview Baptist Church and maintained an active lifestyle by curling, windsurfing, downhill skiing and waterskiing, and sharing this passion with his grandchildren. In retirement Ormie returned to his lifelong love of farming by growing a large crop of raspberries, saskatoons, vegetables and of course his beloved tomatoes at his lakefront property. Ormie was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend, who lived his life to serve as a vessel of God. Our sorrow over his leaving this earthly life is lightened by our knowledge of his eternal life with Christ Jesus. A Celebration of Ormie’s Life will be held at Brentview Baptist Church, 3512 Charleswood Drive NW on Friday June 16, 2017 at 1:00 pm with the Reverend Dr. Dave Spate and Reverend Dave Schiedel officiating.
