In Loving Memory of Ama
Our hearts are deeply saddened by the loss of our dearest Ama. We will always remember her with gratitude and love for the kindness and support she gave our family during our first year in Lae, Papua New Guinea.
Ama played a very special role in our lives, helping us look after our daughter Andrea when she was just one year old. Her care, genuine patience, and warmth contributed positively to Andrea’s formative years—memories we will forever cherish. We remember the times when Ama would cook food for us and teach Andrea chinese. They shared and beautiful bond even in such a short time together. We will always be grateful. Andrea is now 31 and preparing to be married this July, a milestone that reminds us how deeply those early moments mattered.
It is one of our greatest regrets that circumstances and distance prevented us from visiting Ama and Sandra’s family after they moved to Calgary and we relocated to Brisbane. Despite the miles between us, Ama always remained close in our hearts.
We are forever grateful for her generosity, love, and gentle presence in our lives. May she rest in peace, knowing she made a lasting and beautiful difference in our family.
Rest in peace, dear Ama. You will never be forgotten.

My earliest memory of Sakimpo takes me back to summer vacations in Gingoog City, where she warmly welcomed us into her home. Those moments remain some of the most cherished of my childhood.

Sakimpo was a woman of remarkable strength and industry. She worked tirelessly, buying and selling empty bottles and crafting handmade fabric-covered buttons and belts to everyone in the city. She was also beloved for her cooking— supplying the most delicious siopao as well as her moist banana cake to the local moviehouse, bringing comfort and joy to so many.

Her love and devotion to her family were evident in everything she did, especially during every mealtime since she’d always prepare food with love and care. Above all, she showed unwavering dedication to her husband, our Sakokong; she was always so attentive to his needs, from carefully managing his diet to faithfully administering his daily insulin.

Sakimpo was also a woman of great wisdom and she was always generous with it. Whether it was traditional remedies or everyday concerns, she was the person to go to and she’d gladly impart her knowledge to anyone who asked.

Her faith was also the foundation of her life. Deeply religious, she was devoted to prayer and scripture-readings, and she lived each day guided by her beliefs. Anyone who knows Sakimpo would easily see this in everything she did. 

Sakimpo was a devoted and loving wife, mother, aunt, and friend. Her life was lived with kindness, compassion, and faithfulness. She was a good person and the world is dimmer now that her light has been extinguished, but her memory will continue to burn bright in our hearts as we remember her.

Thank you for the laughter, the wisdom, and the warmth you gave so freely. You will always be remembered, always be missed, and always be cherished.

Family get togethers will not be the same without the kid’s Tai-ma.

I will always remember Ama   teaching a Chinese song to my granddaughter Yanna. it was such a sweet and special moment.

She was never Pacienca to us. She was always our beloved Sakimpo. 

One of the best memories, childhood summer days in Gingoog. Sakimpo and Sakukong hosted lechon every Sunday! She loved to cook and bake. Her banana bread was the best! 

And the greatest of all, Sakimpo loved Christ with all her heart. She brought us Siao siblings to believe in Jesus. 

Dear Sakimpo, I can’t thank you enough for inspiring me to the love of Christ. Your faith has shaped my life (and my siblings) in ways I will always cherish. Though you are no longer with us, your teachings and love for Christ will continue to guide me. Your spirit is forever with us. 

Rest in peace Sakimpo. Give my love and lots of hugs to Sakukong. And to Mommy and Daddy.

Ama, one of my most cherished memories of you is how you always made even the simplest moments feel special. You had a way of making everyone feel loved and valued, and that’s something I will carry with me forever.

I remember the times you would give advice in the simplest yet most meaningful way,  Your smile had a way of easing every worry, and your presence alone brought peace to my heart. Even in quiet moments, you showed so much love without needing many words.

Though you are no longer with us, your memory lives on in everything you taught me—in the kindness you showed, the strength you carried, and the love you gave so freely. I will forever miss you, Ama, but I am grateful for every moment we shared, and I will hold onto those memories until we meet again.

So very glad I was able to visit Sakimpo a few years ago.  She was such an influencial presence during my formative years, brought me closer to God and instilled strong discipline.  Going to miss you but rest easy in God’s embrace.

I will always remember my Ama with so much love and gratitude. One of the things I always looked forward to growing up were the gifts she made for me—especially the pajamas she carefully sewed by hand. They weren’t just clothes; they were her way of wrapping me in her love, even from afar.

Though we didn’t always have the chance to spend much time together, I will always cherish how she made the effort to be part of my life. It meant so much that she traveled all the way from Canada to the Philippines to be present at my wedding in 2017. That moment showed me just how much family meant to her.

I wish I could have spent more time with her, but distance made it difficult to be together physically. Still, I carry her love with me in the memories she gave and the care she showed in her own quiet, thoughtful ways.

Ama, thank you for your love, your kindness, and the little things that meant so much. You will always be remembered and deeply missed.

Tua E for me is the most capable and smart woman who seems to know everything. Will miss you.

Our deepest condolences to the Paciencia Key family. I am sure she is now with our Creator.

Sa-Em always had a kind and loving heart. I am grateful to have known her since I was a little girl, when I used to go to her house to learn piano with her sister, Siansi So Mui. Those moments remain such warm and vivid memories that still make me smile even today.

Our last meeting was during our visit to Calgary in 2024. It was short, but very meaningful — a time together that will forever remain in my heart.

At that time, Sa-Em was still very sharp and active in mind. Although her movements had slowed a bit, she remained very engaged in our conversations and was always up to date with everything.

Sa-Em, you were truly a remarkable woman. I admire you deeply.

May your soul rest in peace.

Ahma was such a beautiful soul. Every time I see her, she smiles a lot. Last year October I had the privilege to pray with her and again I saw that beautiful smile on her face. Very peaceful and quiet despite her condition. But behind that quietness, Ahma had a strong personality. She supported and helped the family with taking care of the grandchildren and cooking for them. Such a blessed person. Rest in peace Ahma. I will surely miss your sweet smiles.

Grandaunt Paciencia or SAKIMPO as we called her was God's instrument in bringing a lot of people into Christianity including all 5 of us SIAO siblings.  As far as i can remember, we were encouraged & perhaps persuaded to attend Sunday school since 5 years old. Every Sunday morning without fail, Sakimpo  would come with the sunday school bus to  personally pick us up to make sure none of us are left behind.  We learned so much about Jesus during that period of our lives which until today has a big influence and impact in our lives. . We will always remember Sakimpo for bringing us to Jesus.  We are grateful for this gift of faith she left behind.  Forever remembered, forever grateful!
