Pam was born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario. She was blessed with wonderful parents Earl (Sandy) and Beverley Sanders, as well as being surrounded with caring aunts, uncles, and cousins. In high school she joined the Canadian Army Reserve, where she later met and married the perfect man of her dreams Richard James Goebel. They wed on Boxing Day December 26, 1981. They have been together and madly in love ever since.
Pam attended the University of Waterloo and then studied Medicine at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1981. She interned at the University of Western Ontario, completed her residency in General Surgery at the University of Calgary, and did a Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery at McMaster University. She later received an MA in History from the University of Calgary.
Pam practiced Surgery and Family Medicine in Calgary from 1986 to 2015. She served with the United Nations in the former Yugoslavia in 1993. She is an active member at Foothills Lutheran Church in Calgary.
Although Pam has tried to live her life as an example of Christ’s teaching, she has frequently fallen short. Thank you, Jesus for suffering and dying on the Cross so that my soul was saved through Grace.
Pam wants to thank her friends and family, especially Beverley and Richard, for all the support and care they have provided for her throughout her life and during her earlier journey with cancer. She also wants to thank the staff and fellow members at Wellspring Calgary; the Pastors, Deaconess, staff and members of Foothills Lutheran Church; members of Saint Lazarus Canada; and the medical community involved in her care, especially Dr. Card and Dr. Elford.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel (3220 4 St NW, Calgary, AB T2M 3A5) on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date in Kitchener, Ontario.
