Raymond worked for the Hudson’s Bay company for many years, starting at the bottom and ending his career as a store manager in Peace River, Alberta. This career took him and his first wife Gail all over Canada with highlights including overseeing the opening of several Hudson’s Bay stores.
After he retired from the Hudson’s Bay company in 1984, Raymond and Gail moved to Edmonton where Raymond started working with Combined Insurance. His very positive warm personality allowed him to excel in this role. He quickly rose to the position of district manager where he was able to enjoy traveling around Northern Alberta meeting and supporting his customers and clients. Raymond retired from Combined Insurance at the age of 70.
Raymond met Heather in Edmonton, Alberta and they married in January 2008. They lived together at home until their serious health diseases sadly forced them to move apart into different care facilities.
In early 2025, Raymond moved to Chartwell Eau Claire, Calgary to be closer to his son and daughter in what turned out to be his final year. While at Eau Claire Raymond enjoyed following the stock market on TV, and of course cheering on his favourite sports teams!
The highlight of his day though was the opportunity to play cribbage with his Children and Grandchildren - especially when he was able to skunk one of them.
Raymond suffered from a myriad of health challenges, yet he remained positive and loving to all right up until the end when he passed gently in his sleep at the Chartwell Eau Claire care home in Calgary, Alberta on the morning of October 1st.
The family is grateful for the care of many competent health care professionals within and outside of the Eau Claire care facility, with special thanks given to Dr. Jamal who was able to guide the healthcare team while always being sensitive to Raymond’s goals, interests and needs. The family is also thankful to all at Eau Claire for their generosity with their time to educate and support us through many twists and turns.
