Mick was pre-deceased by his long time love of 62 years, Lois Patterson (nee Griechen), his two brothers and sister. Mick is survived by his three children; Donna (Frank) Drewniak, Steven (Carey) Patterson and Garth (Jennifer) Patterson, eleven grandchildren; Theresa, Carrie (Chris), Rob, Matthew (Natalie), Curtis, Kierah, Mikenna, Keltie, Tanner, Breda and Millicent, four great grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Becca, Kimber and Lochlan.
Mick was the second oldest of four children and was welcomed into this world by Thomas and Mildred (nee Bunnell) Patterson on February 19, 1924 in Ottawa, Ontario. He served diligently with the Royal Canadian Artillery in the Second World War from 1941 to 1945, where his regiments fought in Italy and Holland among others.
Mick married his love, Lois, on September 13, 1947 and lived in Ottawa where he attended Carleton University taking Chemical Engineering. They made the decision to move out West in 1953, settling in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta where he was employed by Sherritt Gordon Mines. Never shying away from adventure, Mick and Lois relocated to Nonoc Island in the Philippines in 1974, returning to “The Fort” in 1978. Mick finally relocated to Calgary in 2014.
He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 27, avid golfer -playing into his late 80’s, hockey player, cross-country skier, mentor, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
