

Robert Theodore Crawford, P. Eng., born April 13, 1924, passed away peacefully at the Colonel Belcher Veterans Care Center on January 14, 2016 at the age of 91. He leaves to mourn his wife of 67 years, Alice; son Jack (Linda); daughters, Joy and Susan (Steven); grandchildren Barb (Eoin), Cathy, and Dave (Mallory); and great-granddaughter Alice Dunne. He was predeceased by his sister Frances Smith (Ron).
Bob was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Upon returning from service after WWII he attended the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1948 with a Bachelors in Civil Engineering. He married the love of his life, Alice Joyce Pugh, in May of that year and together they moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba where he worked for Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. In 1954 they moved to Calgary with their then two children. In Calgary he worked for Burns Meat Packers and Canadian Ice Machine Company before becoming an independent refrigeration engineering consultant. In this capacity he advised many Winter Olympic organizations, including OCO 88 where he provided the refrigeration design for the Olympic Saddledome and the Bobsleigh/Luge run at COP, Lillehamer, Norway, Salt Lake City, Utah and Vancouver. He enjoyed curling, golf and cross-country skiing with Alice and they were longtime members of the Westwinds Curling Club and the Pinebrook Golf and Country Club. He was also a Life Member of APEGA. Summers were always spent at the family cottage at Victoria Beach, Manitoba. He was great lover of people and greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
The family would like to acknowledge the superb care Bob received from the staff at the Colonel Belcher Veterans Care Center.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), at 2:00 p.m.
