Roger Hoffort passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023 in Calgary, AB at the age of 87 years. Roger will be missed greatly by all that knew him, his many long-time friends and family, including Sisters Rose, Anne, Lorraine (Ernie) and Marion (Dave), Daughter Tracey Strashok and son-in-law Jeff, Granddaughter Jenelle Quast (Dustin) and Great Grandsons Keane and Kallen Quast as well as and many loving nieces, nephews and close friends. Roger is predeceased by his Parents August & Blanche Hoffort, brothers Armand, Gerry and Phil and Tracey’s Mother Sherrill.
Roger was born in Rose Valley Saskatchewan, the third oldest of 8 children. He worked on the family farm until he was old enough for his first job in the oil patch in1954 and would go on to an incredible 65 year career in oil and gas.
Roger’s job took him to Valley View, AB where he met Sherril. The family moved to Nova Scotia for a few years after Tracey was born but eventually found their way back west to Calgary. Roger was an extremely social and well-liked man. He made friends everywhere he went and could strike up a conversation with almost anyone. People were naturally drawn to Roger’s charisma, sense of humor and likable nature.
Roger’s hobbies and pastimes were usually centered around horses. He was involved in sponsoring chuckwagons in the 80’s and Arabian Racing all over North America with his daughter Tracey. His biggest accomplishment in racing was his beloved Sueade, who had an unprecedented race record and was inducted into the Arabian Racehorse Hall of Fame.
Roger enjoyed gardening, country music and cherished his coffee group time 3 times a week in Okotoks. Roger also brought his east-coast lobster cooking skills to many events for groups like the Okotoks Petroleum Association where he was a long-time member.
Roger’s professional and personal accomplishments are far too many to list, however, above all, his daughter Tracey was always the main focus in his life. Roger’s life as a dad allowed his generosity and devotion to shine. He was extremely proud of Tracey and her life accomplishments and was an incredible father. He was equally proud of his son-in-law Jeff as they had a great friendship. Finally, Roger’s Granddaughter Jenelle and Grandson in Law Dustin and Great Grandsons Keane and Kallen were his pride and joy. He said many times how much he loved his little family and was extremely happy that Jeff and Tracey found each other.
We were all so lucky to have had Roger in our lives and he will be missed beyond measure.
A Celebration of Life for Roger will take place at South Calgary Funeral Centre on August 21 at 12:00 p.m. (12700 Macleod Trail S, Calgary, Alberta).
