January 21, 1926 – March 11, 2011
Rose Christine Carbury passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the age of 85. She is survived by her husband Joe; daughters Coleen (Jim) Hutton and Kathleen Carbury; grandchildren Amanda and Garratt Hooker; and brother George Renner. She was predeceased by her mother Helen Ehnis and father William Renner. Rose was born in Saskatchewan and raised in Medicine Hat. She graduated with her R.N. from Moose Jaw General Hospital and enjoyed a long and fulfilling nursing career in Medicine Hat and Calgary, spending many years at the Calgary Cancer Clinic prior to her retirement. Rose married Joe Carbury in July of 1949 and together they spent over 61 happy years together in Medicine Hat, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Calgary. Rose enjoyed an active and fulfilling life right up until her death. She was a devoted and active member of her church, Highwood Lutheran, for many years and derived much strength from her faith. She enjoyed her aqua size classes, coffee with friends, and she also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Rose and Joe enjoyed travelling and spent many enjoyable vacations in Mexico, the Caribbean, Florida, California and Maui which was their favourite spot to escape Calgary’s winters. They also enjoyed spending time with family at their home in Invermere and Rose in particular loved travelling to and spending time in the mountains. Rose was an active partner in her husband Joe’s career as the “voice of the Calgary Stampede Chuckwagons” and she assisted him in his booth each year to ensure he had accurate information on each race. Rose had many close friends and in particular, she cherished her friendship with her best friend Arlin Smith. They spent many happy hours together shopping, exercising, and sharing their joys and sorrows. Nothing gave Rose more pleasure than the birth of her beloved grandchildren, Amanda and Garratt, and she was present at the birth of both. She was a loving and loved “Bama” to both and was actively involved in their lives, attending birthdays, graduations, and being there for them. We would like to thank the staff of the Agape Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness shown to our mother and family during Rose’s last days. Appreciation is also expressed to the staff of the cardiac intensive care unit at the Foothills Hospital for the outstanding care and support they provided to our mother. A Memorial Service will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, March 17th, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Agape Hospice, 1302 – 8 Avenue NW, Calgary AB, T2N 1B8.
