Ruby will be greatly missed by her son, John and daughter in law Heather and by her daughter, Patricia as well as six grandchildren: Chris, Stephen, Alex and Anna Shepard and Cameron and Callum Hunter. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, siblings and by her husband, Bernie. Ruby’s life focus was caring for others. This was expressed in many ways. She taught children and cared for the lives of children around the world, encouraged politicians to improve the lives of others, invited new immigrants to her home to learn English and generously helped family members. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. The Family would like to express their thanks to the staff at MacKenzie Towne Care Centre for the kindness shown to Ruby over the past three months.
A Celebration of Ruby’s Life will be held at Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church, 4612 Varsity Dr. N.W., Calgary, AB on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ruby may be made directly to The Canadian Diabetes Association, 1400-522 University Ave Toronto ON M5G 2R5 or The Care and Share Fund of Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
