Ruby L. Sherman (nee Tuggle) devoted loving wife and best friend of the late Samuel R. Sherman for sixty-one years passed away peacefully in Jesus in Calgary, Alberta on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the age of 95 years. She is the loving mother of two children, son Gerald Samuel Sherman and Sharon Elizabeth Sherman, her daughter-in-law Carol and grandchildren Joel, Dan (Amanda), Joanna (William Smith), Rachel (Evgeni Petrenko), Matthew and great grandchildren Isaac Sherman and Oliver Smith. Her family was her love, joy and pride.
Ruby, the youngest daughter of Jesse Lee and Bertie Elizabeth Tuggle, was born nine miles south west of Didsbury, Alberta. Her childhood and teen years were spent with her sisters Arrena and Dorotha, and brother Jay Tuggle. Ruby was most grateful for her rich Christian heritage and being raised by devoted loving parents. She gave her heart to Jesus in a children's meeting at the Westcott Evangelical Church. Ruby enjoyed her life to the fullest and had many wonderful friends, but her greatest friend was the Lord Jesus.
As a Pastor’s wife with her dear husband Sam, Ruby enjoyed serving and ministering. They served together at Neudorf EUB, Warner EUB, Edmonton Richmond Park, Hillcrest Christian College, Little Plume EUB, Didsbury Zion (the church where they made their marriage vows), Carstairs Bethel, and Calgary Centre Street Church with the Maranatha Seniors. Ruby loved music and was church organist for a number of years. She served with the Women of the North West Canada Conference, and was a wonderful hostess for many guests. She found great joy in praying and always had a long list of requests for others: loved ones, church, her country and missionaries serving around the world. Ruby’s prayer was to be mindful to number our days, to be alert, to keep God’s perspective as to what He had planned for our lives, and to keep our eyes forever on Jesus.
She was predeceased by her parents Jesse and Bertie Tuggle, her brother Jay, and her sisters Dorotha and Arrena. She is also survived by brother-in-law Charlie Budd, sister-in-law Lenore (Eric Deimert), nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Peter Lougheed Hospital, the staff of Calgary Centre Street Church, and those at the Prince of Peace Manor. A very special thanks to niece and palliative care nurse Lori MacIsaac for her presence and help in Ruby’s final hours.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Visitation at South Calgary Funeral Centre, 12700 Macleod Trail South, on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A Celebration of Ruby’s Life will be held at Centre Street Church, 3900 2 Street N.E., on Thursday October 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
