He was born into what is known as the “Greatest Generation”, a Generation that grew up during the deprivation of the Great Depression, unselfishly served their country in WW2, and subsequently worked diligently to make a better life for their families and more importantly future generations. Les grew up close to Confederation Park and attended King George elementary, Balmoral Junior High and Crescent Heights High school. He was active in sports, particularly football and won a City Championship in 1937 with Crescent Heights. He also played junior football with the North Hill Blizzards. After graduating from Crescent Heights, Les joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He met the love of his life, Edna while stationed in Moose Jaw in 1945. They were married February 26, 1949 and enjoyed over 68 wonderful years together. Following the war, Les joined Union Tractor Ltd., the Caterpillar dealer at the time and spent close to 30 years as a senior executive. He was an avid Stampeder fan, holding season’s tickets since 1947. Les and Edna moved to Palm Desert, California in 1986, returning to Calgary in 2015. Throughout his life, Les was an active member of his church and had a deep abiding faith in his Lord. Les is survived by his beloved wife Edna; daughter Shirley Hill (Terry); son Jim (Wendy); six grandchildren, Richard Hill (Janeen), Michael Hill (Tatianna), Patrick Hill (Sylvia), JT Hill (Christine), Sara and Tom Inkster; as well as nine great-grandchildren.
