Sharon Ruth Hughes passed away gracefully at the Foothills Country Hospice surrounded by her loving family, on the morning of August 2, 2013. Sharon was born May 17, 1939 and raised in Turner Valley, AB. After graduating from the General Hospital School of Nursing, Sharon went on to enjoy a long and rewarding nursing career with a special interest in oncology and palliative care. Sharon’s career culminated in 2010 as a palliative care nurse at the Foothills Hospital.
Sharon was passionate about her career, but it was her family that brought her the most joy. She was proud to be the mother of two sets of twins and was an exemplary role model for all of her children. Sharon will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 46 years, Ken Hughes, her four children, Karen (Rob) Bose, Elizabeth (Jon) Gareau, Alice (Brian) Reimer and Kent Hughes. Sharon’s nurturing spirit is reflected in her seven grandchildren Timothy and Holly Gareau, Garrett, Carter and Alexa Bose, Willis and Pearce Reimer. Sharon is also survived by her sister Allie Peach and was predeceased by her brother David Willis in 1978.
It was the exceptional care of Dr. Heather Taylor that saw Sharon through her recent health issues and the family is sincerely grateful.
The family would also like to extend their thanks to the caring and compassionate professionals at Foothills Country Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Sharon in her final days.
A Celebration of Life was held at St. Andrews United Church (924 Heritage Dr. SW) on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 2.00 p.m. There was a private family graveside service at Queen's Park Cemetery.
If friends so desire, a memorial tribute may be made directly to Foothills Country Hospice - P.O. Box 274, Okotoks, AB T1S 1A5.
