Shiu Keung was born on November 13, 1921 in Kobe, Japan to Mr. Tak Po Chan and Mrs. Chuk Wan Lee. During World War II, the whole family moved back to Canton, China. In 1950, he moved his young wife to Hong Kong and worked for the Hong Kong government until he and his family immigrated to Calgary, Canada in 1975. Shiu Keung was a very kind and sociable person, and could often be found even in later years taking the bus on weekends to go swimming or to meet friends. He was attentive and enthusiastic in taking care of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he doted upon. Shiu Keung loved music, singing, and exploring the world. He particularly loved travelling on cruises, where he met new places, foods, and people. He loved photographing every moment – distant destinations or simple family dinners.
Shiu Keung had travelled all over the world during his life time. Back in 2016 he made his last cruise to South East Asia at the age of 95. In 2017, accompanied by his wife, son and daughter, he travelled to Las Vegas to enjoy a family reunion with his brother Stephen and sister Helen. He lived a full life, and could always be counted on for a happy smile when you saw him.
Shui Keung is lovingly remembered by and sadly missed by his wife, Lydia Lee Ying, his son Peter, daughter-in-law Amy, his daughter Dorothy, son-in-law Raymond, his grandchildren Michelle, Denise, Christopher and Chelsea, his great grandchildren Cary and Natalie, his brother Stephen, his sister Helen and brother-in-law Michael.
A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 10:30 am.
