So Ngor was born in Taishan, Guangdong, China. She married Pak Yu in Hong Kong in the 1960s, started a new family, and eventually immigrated the family to Canada in the 1970s with the help of dearest family members already in Canada (sister in-law and stepdaughter and their spouses). She was a loving, caring, selfless, helpful and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, sister, and friend. She didn’t have many worldly possessions but was content with what she had. She worked hard as a cleaning lady in office buildings and Woolco Department Stores working to save up enough for a down payment for her small townhouse, where she and her husband raised their two sons. She dedicated herself as a full-time caregiver to her late husband for 6 or 7 years until his passing in 1994.
In her retirement years, she enjoyed going to church, staying in touch with friends and family by telephone, cooking specialty foods for Chinese seasonal celebrations and sharing, organizing semi-annual family visitations to her husband’s grave site in the spring and fall. In her 70s her two sons married and she was blessed with 3 additional grandchildren. She loved being a grandmother feeding, hugging, kissing, and po-po’ing (carrying) her grandkids when they were little.
In her mid-80’s she began having age related health issues but were well managed until she had a fall in the spring of 2021 which render her immobile requiring full-time care which her eldest son was honoured to provide and serve her as she did for her husband. In her final month, she struggled with a pneumonia and ultimately succumbed to complications from its treatment in hospital. She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, stepchildren, sister, nieces, nephews and their families, and anyone who knew her.
So Ngor is predeceased by her husband (Pak Yu), parents (Chang-wan Xu and Chun-Yu Lin), sister (Mei-Su), brother (Wei-Ping), adoptive parents (Kongcheng Chan and Huiqiong Li), adoptive brother (Huanjin Chan), oldest stepson, sister-in-law and her husband (Susan and Jack Chin), nephew (Gordon Chin), and grandson (Michael Cheu), stepdaughter (Maureen Ng).
