Sylvia Roberts

Sylvia was born in Portadown, Northern Ireland. She moved to Manchester, England as a young woman where she met and married her husband, Les Roberts and where their daughter, Elaine was born. In 1956, the family moved to Canada where they settled in Edmonton and sons, Steven and Brent were born. The family relocated to Calgary when Les secured a teaching position at James Fowler High School. Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother with a warm personality and a keen sense of humour. Sylvia enjoyed life and was happiest when she was spending time with family and friends. Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Elaine and son-in-law Dick Cairns; her sons, Steve and Brent; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Dave Cairns along with her many relatives including her sister, Mable Proctor and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, Northern Ireland and England. Sylvia was predeceased by her loving husband, Les in 1994.

A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200-325 Manning Road N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 9Z9 or the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary, 201, 222 - 58 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2S3.
