It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our angel Tylena was taken from this earth for a higher purpose, passing on New Years day. She will be lovingly remembered by her parents Tyna and Ron, her brother and best friend Desmond and her adoring family (in no particular order): Grandma Eleanor, Craig, Terrill, Wendy, Breanna, Jay, Matalyn, Lynden, Dustan, Michelle, Faith, Evie, Michael, John, Erika, Janet, Nicole, Duncan, Spencer, Paul, Jason, Kai, Tina, Pat, Sabrina, Reidwin, Kali, Zachary, Krystal, Liam, Cale, Danny, Suzy, Alex, Dillon, and her fur babies Sugar Boo, Tigger, Fumbles, Jade and Jazz (all Tylena’s cat rescues) and the newest addition big puppy, Bogey.
Our sincere gratitude goes out to Tylena’s friends, colleagues and neighbours for the outpouring of love, support and kindness the family has received in this time of great sadness.
Tylena graduated from Bowness High School in 2014 after which she worked for Value Village (Tylena called it “the Ville”) developing retail skills, warmth in caring for colleagues and advocating for a fair work environment. Tylena also loved her most recent job working for Scholar’s Choice in her community of Silver Springs and showed strong business sense, charisma and talent in helping customers, providing great customer service. Tylena loved people.
Family was very important to Tylena. She always enjoyed family gatherings and holiday meals. Like her grandmother, she was becoming “the rock” in our family. Tylena always looked forward to spending time with her brother and best friend Desmond. Tylena and Des shared the same interest in comics and gaming (played together all their lives).
Tylena not only collected comics but she could illustrate them. She aspired to illustrate her own comic one day together with her brother Des as the writer. A gifted artist, Tylena also designed house plans and practiced interior design on her sim games hoping to one day have a design career. Tylena also loved making things with her hands whether it was growing flowers, planting a garden, working on art projects or making her own jewelry.
Tylena was always caring, spirited and loving and she demonstrated this everyday by reaching out to others and rescuing souls (particularly cats) with her enthusiasm for making the world a better place. Tylena loved volunteering with her Dad every year at the City of Calgary Transit “Stuff-a-Bus” Food Bank drive. She also did other charitable work with her mom like feeding the hungry and handing out family hampers.
Clearly, Tylena was daddy’s little girl and she loved him dearly; Ron and her did everything together. They loved watching the Stampeders and the Flames together even when they didn’t win. Tylena was proud to say she was taking care of Ron.
Tylena had many similarities to her mom, while she didn’t like to admit it, and it showed in her actions like always trying to put others before herself.
Tylena brought brightness, beauty and brilliance to our lives with her infectious smile and kooky sense of humour. We will miss our angel here on earth but keep her close in our heart and souls for the rest of our lives remembering how special she is to all of us.
Tylena was a straight shooter, had a forward manner about her that didn’t back down from challenges… lots of “catitude” Tylena was always a crusader for improving the mental health service for people in need.
A Celebration of Life for Tylena will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on January 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
