Vincent was born in Temnica, Slovenia in 1931. He immigrated to Canada, via Montreal in 1957 and made his way west, settling in Calgary, Alberta. In 1960, Vincent married Lidia Spacal who came to Canada from Slovenia and they then began their life together. They had two beautiful daughters Olga (1961) and Susan (1963). Vincent worked hard to provide for his family. Whenever Vincent had the chance, he would chat with all people hearing their story and leaving them with a smile. Vincent had a memorable huge baritone voice. He sang effusively whenever he had the chance.
His family will remember his infectious smile and laughter and his love of outdoor adventures. Vincent loved the mountains. He would head out to the Rocky Mountains to fish, hike, hunt and camp. Like many in the Slovenian community, Vincent and his wife, Lidia, were connoisseurs of good food. He was adept at gathering, hunting, processing all sorts of food including preserving wild mushrooms, completely butchering an entire animal and making the finest charcuterie including prosciutto. His family often gathered to enjoy their soup, pasta and goulash.
Vincent was predeceased by his wife, Lidia (nee Spacal) in 2022, and survived by his daughters Olga Follett (Charles) and Susan John (Richard), his grandchildren Stephanie John (Trevor), Julia John (Ford), Kasey Follett and Tom Follett; and two great grandchildren, Clara and Dawson (Julia and Ford).
