Catherine (Cathie) Irene Macdonald (Frew)

Cathie grew up in Preston, ON, the daughter of Hugh (1976) and Hazel (1988) Frew (née Gordier), and the sister of Hugh Jr “Sonny” (2000), Valverta White (1990), and Sharon. She was the devoted wife of Archibald Macdonald (1939-1984), beloved mother of Heather Macdonald, of Windsor, ON; David, and Andrew Macdonald, both of Kitchener, ON; step-mother of Loraine Macdonald, of Kilmarnock, Scotland; and dear Grandma of Rylan Archibald Macdonald, of Guelph. She was much-loved “Auntie Cathie” to, and pre-deceased by, nephew and godson Robert White (2005). Nephew Rick White, and brother-in-law Allister White, both of Cambridge, ON, will miss her greatly. The Scottish contingent of sister-in-law Mary Hepburn (née Macdonald, husband David), brothers-in-law Roderick, Lachlan (wife Frances), and Finlay (wife Chela) Macdonald lament her passing. Many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces, and one great-great niece around the world will also miss her.

Cathie was known for her love and selfless devotion to her family and her beloved Cocker Spaniel, Spencer. She was a voracious reader who loved her Len Deighton and Sue Grafton mysteries. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by many.

Family will receive friends at Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge, on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral service will be held at Trillium United Church, 450 King Street East, on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 2pm. Interment Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
