While I only had the pleasure of knowing Heather for a short while as a colleague at John F Ross, I know that she was a warm and kind soul who made everyone around her feel welcome.  I always knew that I could count on Heather for a friendly hello and a sincere smile, something so seemingly small, but incredibly meaningful to a new teacher at a huge school.  She will be remembered as a genuine and caring individual by students and colleagues alike. 

I hope her family can take comfort in knowing that she has left a lasting legacy of innumerable students touched by her character and teaching.

I too remember Heather for her laughter, love of teaching and of course her love for the Lord. Heather and I became friends in the middle of the 80's when she was so kind to me and would drive me to medical appointments. The highlight of our friendship was our trip to Ottawa. After 2 days, we lost power at the hotel. There had been a fire at the Sparks Street transformer station. Heather was not daunted in the least and just ran up and down the stairs as if they weren't there. We had a great week enjoying all that Parliament Hill had to offer us. Heather remained a good friend to me and we only lost contact after she moved to PEI. But now she is safe in the arms of our Lord and I know she will have the biggest grin on her face.

I am so proud to have had the opportunity to work with Heather at John F. Ross. She was a huge supporter of students and staff and could always be counted on to share her time, knowledge, energy or financial assistance to worthy causes within the school. Heather loved helping students. She embraced all learners and made  special connections with students who struggled. She found ways to help students succeed and focused on their efforts to improve themselves. Your spirit will live on Heather. Thank you for inspiring me. May you rest in peace.

Some my earliest memories revolve around "Miss Large" and her wonderful, giving spirit. While it is true she was one of my teachers while at TBCA, she was also a friend to a young girl trying so hard to grow up. Whenever she came to babysit, she never came empty-handed. And when she taught, it seemed like always had a cup of coffee in her hands. I can remember her quick smile and ready laugh. I am so thankful for the influence she had on me, and I look forward to being reunited with her. My prayers are with you during this time of loss.

Where to even start... I was a student of Heather's. Throughout my years of high school I was in her classes several times. Growing up I had an ongoing struggle with math, always falling behind extremely frustrated, never quite being able to grasp the concepts. However, that was until I had Heather as a teacher. She had such a talent for breaking down the components of math that made it difficult, and turning them into something that was totally understandable. Because of her I went from dreading math class to looking forward to it! She did all kinds of fun "math games" with us. One time we were doing a unit on probability. "Roll up the Rim" was going on at Tim Horton's, and to test the probability "1 in 7" winning factor, she bought each student a coffee. Then we all rolled up our rims and did a count to see who had won. 

On my very last day of high school before graduating, my last class of the day was with Heather. She was the last person I spoke with before leaving the building. She wished me all the best, and told me to come back and visit sometime. I regret that I never did make the time to go back for a visit. 

My academic memories of high school have faded over the years, but the ones that stand out the most are without a doubt the math classes that I took with Heather. Every time I encounter math in the real world, I think of something she taught us, some fun game or rule to help us learn and remember. These are things that will never be forgotten. Her passion was math and making it a fun journey for students to learn it. I know that when the time comes that I am helping my children with their math homework, I will be sharing the wisdom and ideas with them that she shared with me and many many other students.

I give my deepest condolences to Heather's family and close friends. Find peace in knowing that she will be remembered as the kind, down-to-earth, brilliant woman that so many of us knew her as.

Despite what the article says about many students students disliking and resenting math teachers, I must say this fine womans nature made it the exact opposite in my case. Before entering John F Ross as a student, I hated math but I had the fortunate opportunity to be placed in not only 1, not even only 2, but 3 of her different classes and she turned my dislike into a great passion for the subject. I would also chat with her many times in between classes and all except for the fact that I still had the mindset of the student/teacher boundaries I considered her a pretty good friend.

I first met Heather in 1973 at Camp Cherith in Walkerton, Ontario where we were both working for the summer-she as counselor, me in the kitchen.  She had her teenaged campers written me letters from a pretend boyfriend because I was far from home (I lived in B.C. At that time) and got almost no mail during daily mail call.  We didn't keep in touch but in 1980 I moved to Ontario and got married.  The following year we started attending Temple Baptist Church.  That first Sunday I saw Heather sitting in the front row in the overflow and I said to my husband "I know that woman!  She's crazy!!  After the service we wound our way through the crowd and gave each other a big hug!  And, that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship!  Heather was a loyal friend.  She was thoughtful and unselfish.  And she was FUN!  She was like an ain't to our three children.  They grew up with her around on an almost daily basis.  She could often be found at our home for coffee or a meal.  She taught our kids to enjoy the finer things in life-Mexican food, video games, Star Trek, books and the Toronto Blue Jays!   We moved to PEI in 1993 and Heather followed us shortly after snd we continued to grow our friendship.  She was always busy going of herself.  She was used by God mightily in children's ministry.  She and Charlie were well loved and Clumsy the C,own also made an occasional appearance.  She taught our younger son to juggle and for a bit he became Clumsy Junior (CJ) and joined her in her adventures.  Oh, Heather.  My heart is sorely grieved to think that you won't be coming out east as planned this summer.  I miss you so much.  But, I know where you are!  And, I will join you in a bit!  Enjoy the crowns God has given you and wait for me on the other side.

I am proud to count Heather as one of the most influential people in my life ... as a teacher, mentor and friend ... though she is missed here it is a joy to know that she's now sharing her smile and laughter with everyone in heaven's halls ...

I had the privilege of working with Heather for several years at Grace Christian School in Charlottetown PEI. She became a good friend to our family and we were saddened to hear of her sudden home call to Heaven. She was an excellent teacher who was dedicated to her students in encouraging their appreciation of math. Our sympathy to her family and friends in Ontario.

The timing of Heather's graduation to glory doesn't add up. The subtraction of her joyous presence is a loss for sure. But I know her addition to heaven has brought her great joy. I am also reminded that my time here is only a small fraction in comparison to eternity where I will meet her again.

I was heartsore to hear of Heather's passing. She had a quick wit, an easy smile, a helpful hand, and a kind heart. On those tough mornings, a lunch laughing with Heather made afternoon classes a little more bearable. Our last meeting was a celebratory retirement dinner with Chantal, where we laughed again. I only wish we had made time for more.

Heather and I go back to the late 60's when she was a university student in Waterloo searching for answers to life's questions.  She accepted Christ as her Lord and Saviour at that time and never looked back.  She has been an outstanding school teacher, mentor, and friend to many who have crossed her path. The staff of Grace Christian School and church family of Grace Baptist Church in Charlottetown, PEI send expressions of sympathy to the family of Heather.  Heather taught at Grace Christian School from 1994-2001 and had a great impact on students and staff.

I have fond memories of Heather, from our times working together at Ross, and then commuting a couple of times with her after we moved to Cambridge. It was great to have a fellow believer to support each other in public schools.  I can still hear her laugh in my head when I think about her.

You shall be truly missed here on earth but the day will come when we shall dance on the streets of gold forever and together!

She wasn't just my teacher, my tutor, my babysitter, my sunday school teacher, the lady that bought me most of my toys and introduced me to hockey ... she also became my friend.  She will be missed, but the memories we have of her will last a lifetime.  Looking forward to being reunited with her one day!

What a sad day to hear of your passing...only to find great happiness in knowing your love of the Lord and your belief in His Son and knowing your last breath on earth was your first breath with Jesus..... You were so inspirational to so many of the kids you taught in school and in Sunday school..... Much love...

I still remember Heather's enthusiastic Puppet presentation 15 years ago to the Sunday School Rally service at Tryon Baptist Church, PEI. Condolences to family & friends!

What a woman! Heather was a Giver...she put up with pasta dinners every week as she tutored all my kids in math...and brought them toys and goodies as well....she gave us our first microwave and never showed up empty handed.  A great laugh a great jokster...a great woman of God! She was a great Sunday school teacher and blessed our church the years she attended...you could always count on her to step in wherever there was a need....she will be missed.

I was the secretary at Temple Baptist Christian Academy for eight years.  During that time Heather and I became good friends.  Her humour often made my day!  I loved watching her with the students - she really gave her all to them.  Although we have not been in touch for sometime, my heart is heavy with the loss of this dear friend from the past.  May God bring peace and comfort to the family during this time.

Aw, Dear Heather.  Your laugh, larger than life.  Your story telling, exciting.  Your friendship, still treasured.  Your encouragement, gratefully remembered.  So many memories I have from the 4+ years we taught together at GCS in Charlottetown.  To me, a new teacher, you gave your time and your supplies.  Many of my bulletin boards were made far more appealing by raiding your supply box.  When I had no clue about some science topic I was to teach you'd not only explain it to me but help me make in interesting for my students as well.  I recall how excited the elementary children were whenever you came to chapel to tell them a story.  Others who went to AWANA would come to school complaining about where you'd left off the night before on a continuing story and how they had to wait a whole week until they could hear the next part.  I remember when something started to change in you and and I realized that God was up to something in your life and you were letting Him mold you.  It was exciting to see you let Him work in you.  Change isn't easy but you glowed with His goodness.  You and I had some amazing talks about all that.  It impacted me too.  I am enjoying the memories that are flooding my mind this week.  It saddens me that you are gone and that I haven't seen you in years but I rejoice that you are safe in the arms of Jesus.  Enjoy Heaven, my friend.  :)How could you not :)

To Heather's family;  I am sorry for your loss.  She was a wonderful friend to me.  A follower of Jesus. I'm grateful to have known her.

I am a former co-worker of Heather's. We taught together at Grace Christian School in Charlottetown, P. E. I. Although, I taught in the elementary dept. & Heather in the high school dept. She was a great teacher & the students really liked her. Her faithfulness to the Lord & her job was very evident in all that she did for her students. She put her all into her teaching & enjoyed seeing the students excel. I can remember her saying to her math students, "Fractions are our friends." I'm sure they disagreed with her about that but she did love teaching math. Heather has "graduated" to her home in heaven where she is right now experiencing all the blessings of heaven & enjoying sweet fellowship, face to face, with her Lord & Saviour.
