James Gordon Corby - beloved husband, father, Papa, and friend - passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on March 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 67 years old. The true embodiment of a self-made man, James’ love, hard work, and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him.
James leaves behind his wife and best friend, Elizabeth Corby. He was a devoted father to Melissa (Nick) and Jenny (Terry); a loving Papa to Vander and Leila; a cherished brother to Brenda Claine and Doug Campbell; and a dear friend to many who will all miss him dearly.
By trade, James was a Fitter Welder, and was proud of his ability to craft, build, and shape. His skills working with his hands proved useful in his personal life as well. Described by his family as a “jack of all trades”, James could fix just about anything – from plumbing, to electrical work, to automotive issues – and he did it all with determination and creativity.
In his spare time, James was passionate about hunting and fishing, finding peace in the quiet moments he spent in nature. His vegetable garden was a testament to his patience and dedication, and he nurtured his plants with care, attention, and love. His pride and joy was his John Deere tractor (a splurge to treat himself); a symbol of his dedication to hard work. James worked the land, fixed what was broken, and never hesitated to share his skills with those around him.
He was the type of person who would never say “no” when someone needed help. Whether it was installing a new car battery in the middle of the night, or offering a word of advice, he was always there to give and never asked for anything in return. His rare ability to show up for others when they needed him most left a deep and enduring impression on his family, friends, and those who were lucky enough to know him.
As were James’ wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.
James’ family would like to extend a deep and heartfelt thank-you to his friends and colleagues at Kerr & Kerr Landscaping for the endless love, support, and friendship they have shown to James over the years.
