Our heart goes out to all who have lost john. John did not let his health problems define him his actions were what made him the man he was and defined the great person he was the fantastic friend he became to us he had such a great sense of humour sometimes he's pop his leg off as a joke to talen and hand it to him to make him feel more comfortable with it all when he had first got home after losing it  he was a layed back optimistic guy who knew how to make lemon aid out of lemons lol to make a positive out of a negative

John Blake, friend, brother, son, uncle and much more. He never had a child of his own but he told me that my son Talen was like a son to him, so I guess he wore almost all hats, metaphorically speaking. He was so many things to so many people. He was like an uncle, not by blood but to Talen and I; he did everything an uncle would do and more.  
John was one of the few special people I call best friend. Definition of friend --  A person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard, a person who gives assistance support. Well, John was a friend in every way. Yes, a true friend, trustworthy, loyal, loving, kind, caring, always there to help, to listen and lend an ear whenever I was down and always had a should I could lean on. 
I first met John, about eight years ago when he was living at my parents place. It did not take long for me to go from calling him a roommate to calling him friend. He met Talen around the same time. Talen was 18 months at the time and took an instant liking to John. John was always patient an kind to both Talen and I.
 I will never forget John asking Talen and I if we would like to go for breakfast. It was one of the first times Talen had been to a greasy spoon, all day breakfast establishment. John loved going out for breakfast. It quickly became a tradition for all of us. Talen always wanted to go out for breakfast with John. So, we would go almost every weekend that I had Talen. Even when John was not around, Talen would ask me "Dad, when are we going out for breakfast with John?" Even when John was not around, Talen would always ask me "Dad, where's John, I hope he will be around this weekend." John would tell Talen stories of when he was younger, we would hang out together, go for walks, drives, watch movies together, the list is endless.
John became a m
John became a must have, permanent part of our lives.
John, Talen and I spent huge amounts of time with each other during the past eight years, not just time, but QUALITY time.
Then, there is our little 12lb dog Gizmo. He will miss John. when my parent sold their house and John chose to move down the street in my home with me, in the beginning when I was off at work Gizmo would scratch on his door to be with John as he was lonely and wanted company. He was used t having my parents around. John, then began to leave his door open for Gizmo. John gave Gizmo a very very special Afghan his mother had made because Gizmo instantly took a liking to it when it was on the floor...Our dog was with John almost as much as he was with me, if not more than he was with me the past two years because John had been around more. John treated Gizmo with total love and kindness. Gizmo felt loved and safe with John. John would even reach down and gently cover him up if he was sleeping, or he thought he was cold. To this day he still waits to this very day in John's room, waiting for him to come home.
John and Talen would have many nerf fights. They would always joke with one another. He always made Talen feel important and valued what Talen had to say. We loved John just like family, to us , John was family to us.
John was like a brother to me.  John really let me into his world and I him too. We talked about many things, some of which he probably never discussed with anyone else. We had a very special bond. I saw so many sides of John, there was so much to him. He was a deep person with a lot of heart. He taught me a lot. I learned so much from him and I am so grateful for his friendship. Talen and I feel very privileged to have had John in our lives to have shared so many memories together.
John was a fighter. He never complained when he had pain. Whenever experiencing health problems John had, we would discuss how he was going to overcome and conquer them. John ran into a lot of health problems over the time we knew him, yet he never let these things define who he was.
We last saw John while on vacation in July. His eyes lit up especially when Talen came running up excitedly and smiling to give him a great big hug. We talked with him like we always did about future plans when he got back. He reassured Talen that it would be sooner rather than later. We had it planned to go to see Star wars together when it opened at theatres at the Imax in Vaughn. We talked about many other future plans. He was very positive, optimistic, excited and expressed how he was looking forward t coming back home. We were very much looking forward to this time to come. 
He toughed our lives so, so much. I am a better person for knowing John. I will miss my dear friend. I just wish I could see him again in this life, just one more time. I wish he was coming home. We loved John very much. John would not want us to be sad, but we cannot help but feel sadness. I want my friend back. I know I cannot have this, so I will think of him often, he will always be in our hearts, I will do great things, try to smell the rose more metaphorically speaking, not forget how precious life is and not to take it for granted.Our dear friend has his angel wings now and is no longer in pain. It is comforting to know he is watching over us from above. We will miss you, we love you, take care my dear friend until we meet again.

Love Talen, Mike and Gizmo
