As we mourn the loss of our father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, may the following poem — written by his son Kevin at the age of 20 — offer some comfort and reflection on the special bond they shared:
“On the midst of a brisk October morn,
we set out with cold steel guns
with ragged caps and coats torn.
A very first glimpse of the sunlit frost
was a good sign of things to come.
Morning grouse were destined to be lost.
A distant stroll on trail and shrubs amung
turning leaves and squirrels that warn
amung untouched roads and Persian rugs.
Still were the trees that stood so still
like the roadside stream begging for rain
swollen when the spring runs fill.
Never is there a better memory like her,
the female grouse appearing twice like that,
the singular shot and the scent of gunpowder.
Father knows best when it comes to hunt
on the midst of a brisk October morn.”
Claude’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace
