Don was born on March 3, 1939, in New Port, QC to the late Judith Eleanor (Cooke) and the late James Herbert Manning.
Don worked for the CNR from the early age of 16 until his retirement at the age of 55. Then he purchased his own transport truck and worked for several companies as an independent broker for many years. After hanging up his logbook, he purchased a tractor and snowblower and did snow removal until the spring of 2023.
Don was predeceased by his mother, father, brothers Bernard and Herbert Jr, and his granddaughter Charlene and great-granddaughter Rebekah.
Don is survived by his friend Phyllis Berthelot, and his children Joan (Darin) and Brenda (Donald), his sister Veneta and brother Leigh, Grandchildren Adam, Christopher, Steven, and Gregory several great-grandchildren and stepchildren, Stewart, Bruce, Gerard, Gwen, Tanya (Henry), and step grandson Gregory Wysote.
There will be a graveside service at St Andrews Anglican Church cemetery, New Carlisle, QC on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11:00 am.
Contributions in Don’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
