Morley was born on December 8, 1938, in Listuguj, QC, to the late Anne Basque and Elden Vicaire, and was raised by his adoptive parents, the late Léo Sook and Nancy Caplin.
He was a proud Mi’gmaq man and a first-language speaker, who carried our words and stories with pride. Over his lifetime, he worked with his hands and his heart — as a skilled barber, scuba diver, river guide, and plumber. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, canoeing on the mighty Restigouche, and river rafting on the Escuminac and Matapedia rivers, where he felt most at home. Music was also a great part of his life; he sang and played both guitar and harmonica, with a fondness for country classics and a touch of rock from the times. He enjoyed the friendly competition of a game of pool, cribbage, and horseshoes, always ready for laughter and good company. His greatest joy, however, was found in family — in his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry forward his stories, his humour, and his love of life.
Besides his wife Rose, he is survived by his children Juella (Roger), Lorna (Don), and Myrna (George) Sook; six grandchildren — Zachary, Jesse, Sarah, Walter, Laura, and Kristen; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Dan Basque and Dale Tolgoni.
