Jack leaves behind to mourn his best friend, main squeeze, the love of his life and best travel companion, wife Neno (Anna Boyle), his fabulous daughter Jacqueline, her husband James Molony and their beautiful daughter Rory. His amazing daughter Elizabeth and his spectacular son Christopher and his partner Natasha Levesque. He loved his wife and children beyond measure and was thrilled with the arrival of his sweet granddaughter Rory in August 2023.
Jack was predeceased by his father Dr. Ian MacMillan and mother Barbara MacMillan (nee Howell) as well as several aunts, uncles and family members across the country. He also leaves to mourn his three sisters Heather MacMillan, Gail Murray (Scott) and Dr. Jane Bondt (Philip); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, "out-laws", and too many special friends and neighbours to mention.
Jack grew up in Charlottetown and spent summers in Stanhope where he began his life-long love of golf and days at Ross Lane Beach. After graduating from StFX with a BBA, Jack jumped into the food service industry managing Mother’s Restaurant/Father’s Lounge for the Murphy Group, eventually managing their Saint John location, purchasing that then selling it to Pizza Delight. In 1986 Jack married Neno and married into a large boisterous family. He held his own in the madness and loved being part of the big group of extended family. In 1991 Jack headed to northern New Brunswick to open and operate Tim Hortons #550, eventually leading to four locations across Northern N.B., all the while becoming associated with a great group of franchisees.
Jack was proud to be a member of the community focused chain and truly iconic Canadian brand that was Tim Horton’s. It was a tough start but after focusing on TimBits Hockey, Soccer and T-Ball, things cruised along. Jack sat on the corporate advisory board for six years and enjoyed watching how things worked from the other side. A big thrill was ringing the bell at the TSX when Tims went public and hosting Hockey Day in Canada in Campbellton! Those were good times!
In 2019 Jack was diagnosed with a brain tumor, sold his business, had his tumor removed and returned to PEI to recover at his home in Stanhope overlooking the golf course that he loved so much. Things were great until summer 2024 when blood cancer popped up. That was that. Throughout his medical challenges Jack maintained his quick wit and cheery outlook, cracking jokes until the very end.
Jack was so grateful that all of his kids ended up on PEI, working hard and advancing their lives. He and Neno were so grateful to travel with the best couple ever on a Viking Ship from Amsterdam to Budapest in May of 2024. Jack loved to travel with his wife and children, especially to sunny destinations. Trips to Grand Cayman were a special highlight. 7 Mile Beach was second only to Ross Lane. He enjoyed being a snowbird and spending the worst parts of winter in SW Florida with Neno where they enjoyed sitting outside every morning doing their word games and crossword puzzles, always in pen. He wanted to ensure that his children and grandchildren would have summer memories in his beloved Stanhope. In summer 2024 he purchased a cottage and had plans to renovate for his kids. Truly a family man through and through, right until the very end. Thank you, Dad, we’ll make sure it’s up to your standards. Jack was second to none as a husband, Dad and Grampie. He will be loved and missed forever. We were so fortunate to have had him and our lives will be forever changed in his absence.
To all of our Campbellton friends, we had a great run and we enjoyed living there immensely. If you haven’t been, go! To the boys (and girls) of Charlottetown who welcomed us back home with open arms, it wouldn’t have been the same without you. See you on the 19th hole and hopefully Lady Hess will get her wits about her! Regardless of the outcome of the races, Jack always said buying in with the "Group of 7" was the best money he could have spent.
To the Cancer Treatment Centre and the QEH in general, thank you. Not sure how you do it every day!
You make plans and life happens! Live each day like it could be your last but be careful!
See you on the other side.
