Vimy passed away, with his loving family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer on June 9, 2010 at the age of 69. We witness the passing of a very generous and passionate man. He had an unconditional love for his family.
Vimy enjoyed nature. He was a fish warden fondly referred to as the "King of the Restigouche". His passion for horses is legendary and one that he passed on to his grandchildren. It took him to every horseyard from Ottawa to Timbucto. He worked in the woods cutting logs with his horse hauling the loads. He preferred a horse to a tractor, he said, as they were easier to talk to. Vimy enjoyed hockey. Not only the NHL. It was the cold village rinks, cheering on "his" boys, that brought him the greatest pleasure. He is survived by his lifelong partner, "nurse" and adoring wife of 50 years, Vera (Adams), his mother, Isabel (Mann). His greatest pride was being father to five wonderful children, Debbie (Steven Connors), Shelley, Tim (Carole), Duane (Lisa) and Jeffrey (Carolyn), and 12 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Vaughn (Elizabeth) and Conrad (Annette), 3 sisters, Eleanor (Bernie Mahoney), Heather (Bob Gauvin), and Debrah (Rick Watling).
Vimy was predeceased by his father, Henry, in January, 2010, and his brother, Kenneth in December, 2006.
Funeral service will be held at Maher's Funeral Chapel, Campbellton, on Sunday, June 13th at 3 p.m., immediately followed by interment at the First United Baptist cemetery in Mann Settlement, QC. The last few hundred yards of Vimy's journey will be by horse and wagon. Reception will follow.
Donations to your charity of choice would be appreciated.
We sadly bid farewell to another "fighting fisherman".
