

Daphne Lovelady Cornelius Stokes was born in Altoga, Texas, to parents Ary G. and Blanche Jarrell Lovelady. She passed away on December 31, 2014, in Dallas, Texas. Daphne grew up in McKinney, Texas, and graduated from McKinney High School. She married Joe M. Cornelius and had three children, Joanna, Carole and Jan. In 1962, Daphne married Bobby Joe Stokes. Daphne and Bob had one son, Steve. Daphne retired after working as an administrative assistant for 36 years at the City of Dallas Department of Parks and Recreation. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; one brother, Choice Lovelady; and two sisters, Mary Francis Lovelady and Jacquita Lovelady Burnside. Daphne was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church. She is survived by her children: Joanna Lindsay of Sarasota, Florida; Carole Pickering and husband, Creighton, Paris; Jan Cornelius and wife, Charity, Dallas; Steve Stokes and wife, Jennie, Lewisville; step-son, Bobby Stokes, of Coppell; grandchildren: Jeff Pickering, Long Beach, California; Scott Pickering and wife, Alex, Paris; Austin Cornelius, Dallas; two great-grandchildren: Caleb Pickering, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Taylor Pickering, Paris; and one sister, Joy Murphy, of Amherst, Massachusetts. Daphne is also survived by her husband, Bob’s, grandchildren, their spouses and children. She will be greatly missed by her family as well as her neighbors, friends and Sunday School Class at Park Cities Baptist Church.
