She was born on October 14, 1946 to her late parents, Retd. headmaster Mr. M. P. Oommen and Mrs. Aleyamma Oommen of Kochumammoottil House, Thalavady. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. M. Thomas Varghese of Manalel Madathil, Kadapare Mannar, who passed away in 2003.
Sucy is the youngest daughter and fourth child in a family of eight - Mrs. Achiamma Thomas (Kottayam), Mrs. Sosamma Thomas (Pullad), Mr. Philip Oommen (Tennessee), Mr. Oommen Varhese (Dallas), late Mr. Kurien Oommen (Dallas), Mr. Emmanuel Varghese (Coimbatore) and Mr. C. C. Cherian (Philadelphia).

Although Sucy did not enjoy cooking, she was an amazing cook, a trait her daughter inherited from her. She loved to read and sew, hobbies that she had to give up in recent years due to health issues, and in the last few years, loved watching her favorite Malayalam TV serials. Sucy has always loved and excelled at keeping in touch with her relatives and extended family and friends, and would talk to her loved ones on the phone multiple times a day. Sucy had a fear of dogs her whole life, until two years ago, when her son-in-law brought home a shih tzu puppy. Mocha then became her "sundari kutti," whom she would share her food with.
Sucy is survived by her only daughter, Esther Thomas Mathew, her son-in-law, Sajan Mathew (Variklayil House) and her two grandchildren, Matthew and Alyssa.
