Ray Kent was born Raymond Ignacious Yanowski on January 29, 1935. Born on his family's farm in Falls County, TX near the community of Bremond ,TX. He was the fourth and last child of Frank and Julia (Kowalski) Yanowski. He lived a full life until his death on September 29, 2017.
Ray was a graduate of Bremond High School, Navarro Junior College, and Baylor University. Following college, he taught as well as coached at Elkheart, TX and La Vega High School . He served in the National Guard and worked for the U. S. Treasury Department. Ray was also the founder and President of Almost Famous Foods.
All through his life he pursued his love of music and entertaining; playing the fiddle, mandolin, guitar and piano...all self taught. It was obvious from an early age that he was a gifted musician and performer. One family story recalls young Ray standing on a chair and playing the fiddle at the 6th Street Dance Hall in the Houston Heights neighborhood. Even as a young boy he had a following of fans.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Theodore Yanowski, Albina Yanowski Jones, and Richard Yanowski. His son Allen Kent, from a former marriage to Judy York, also preceded him in death.
He is survived by nephews, nieces and their spouses, cousins, and many, many friends.
Per his wishes, Ray will be cremated. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. Ray's ashes will be interred with his parents at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bremond, TX.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses, and Chaplain Santos at Baylor Medical Center Gaston in Dallas, TX. The family would also like to thank Billy Mitchell for his assistance during and after Ray's illness.
If desired, Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
