Tommy Paul Carlos, 72, passed away on April 19, 2026. Born February 8, 1954, Tommy lived a life marked by steady work, a generous heart, and faithful devotion to the people and places that shaped him.
Tommy attended grade school on the Tohono O'odham reservation and later attended Phoenix Indian High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Marines, serving from 1972 to 1975—years that reflected the discipline and resolve that would continue to guide him throughout his life.
Tommy’s commitment to community was enduring and deeply rooted. He served two terms as Vice Chairman of the Great Gu Achie District with the Lopez/Carlos Administration from 2003 to 2011, and later served a third term as Vice Chairman with the Anita/Carlos Administration from 2015 to 2019. He also currently served as a Community Representative to his community of Oakum Kuk. In all these roles, Tommy was known for showing up, following through, and offering help with a quiet kindness that made others feel seen and supported.
A Traditional Singer and Story Teller, Tommy remained closely involved with the Community, the Great Gu Achie District, and the Elderly Center. His faithfulness was evident not only in what he believed, but in how consistently he gave of himself—through presence, service, and the traditions he carried forward.
Tommy is survived by his daughter Tammy Manuel (Reggie); a brother, Luis Carlos; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 31 years; his two daughters; three brothers; and his only sister.
