She was the second born of twelve children to Jewell I. (Beem) Ferguson and Clifford C. Ferguson in Alliance, NE. She grew up on the family ranch, north of Ashby NE riding horses to the little one room school house. She later attended high school in Ashby and went to college in Denver, CO.
She was united in marriage to Glenn Kerrigan in June 1955 in Alliance, NE. They had two children, Randy and Joan. Along with Nebraska, they also lived in Wyoming, South Dakota and finally Washington.
Carol stated working for Lewis County in Washington, about 1969 and retired in 1998. While there she worked her way up to be the Chief Accountant for Lewis County Public Works. She was very accurate and precise, so much so, that the State Auditor’s office once offered her a position with them after doing an Audit of Lewis County’s books and finding no errors. She was very close to her two assistants, Bonnie and June, as they were all dear friends.
She liked to write poems and stories, and had she pursued that love she would have been a good writer. She invented the family Christmas Grab Box, which was filled with mystery gifts that could be kept or traded. There were many funny gifts in that box and you never knew what you were going to get. It was her way to stretch out Christmas, and help the kids be patient waiting to open gifts under the tree.
She was a member of the Salkum Community Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandkids. She planted gardens and flowers when she was able. She also enjoyed feeding the birds. She had one special Blue Jay who always got special treats from her. Sitting out back in the patio with a wood fire was a nice way for her to enjoy cool evenings with her family and watch the cattle graze.
