

Hilda Olivia Christiansen passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 with her loved ones by her side in Toledo, Washington. Hilda was born to Kristen N. and Maren F. (Johnsen) Wehus June 5, 1925 in Kristiansand, Norway.
She was a graduate of high school and went onto business college in Norway. In 1947, Hilda married Barney Simon Christiansen in Kristiansand, Norway. Together, they had two daughters, one of which passed away as an infant.
In 1949, Hilda and her family moved to the United States in pursuit of a better life. They eventually found their new home in Randle, Washington and spent the next 40 plus years there. Hilda worked as a laborer at Cowlitz Stud Mill in Randle, retiring after 29 years. She would impress and amaze everyone with her Norwegian flair in the kitchen. Family was known to rave about her lefse, cookies and most of all her infamous meatballs.
When she wasn’t visiting with the kids, you would find Hilda playing cards with friends, knitting and taking trips to the casino.
Hilda was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Barney; daughters, Kathy Rowland; Baby Christiansen; brother, Willy; and sister, Ann.
She is survived by her brother, Karstin Wehus; grandchildren, Blaine (Dani) Rowland and Nicki (Nick) Rowland; and three great-grandchildren, Justin Rowland, Riley and Hailey Overby.
Due to the holidays, the family will have a memorial service for Hilda at a later date.
