Hi grandpa Jim, this is Kelsey, your third grandchild of Ryan Harris. I'm in 5th grade, 11 years old, My birthday was 12-07-13, AND DAD NAMED ME AFTER YOU!, my middle name is Kelsey Jamison Harris, i wish that you where here to see me grow up. Dad says that he really wishes that you where to see me grow up too, and that he knows that you love me, now I'm not sure that you did go here, that is because there's one eastern one, but when I am older I've decided what collage I'm going to. When Jimmy was little, he liked to get me in trouble. He got away with a lot of things because he was the baby. As the oldest, I was the responsible one when our parents weren't there, so he would get into mischief, knowing I would get blamed because I should have watched him better.  Once, when he was about 8 years old, he snuck the chocolate chips out of the cupboard and when I saw him, he ran, thinking he could outrun me.  I caught him on the stairs, and somehow he tumbled all the way down.  He was not seriously hurt, but it hurt a lot.  I guess he thought I did it on purpose to punish him.. Anyway, after that, he listened to me better.  It was a good thing, because it was not long before he was bigger than I was.

Jimmy didn't always get away with every thing, though.  One fall, he got caught knocking apples out of the Gravenstein tree.  It was the apples our mother made applesauce with.  Before they were ripe, he stood on the swing seat and jumped up and down to make it “rain” apples. He was in big trouble. He tattled that he was only copying his big sisters.  It was true of course, but he didn't have to tell.  

When we were kids we spent a lot of summer vacations camping at the ocean with our cousins. We always looked forward to it.  The six of us, (Lucinda, Jimmy, Evelyn, Steve, Me and Danny) always  had a lot of fun.  One of our favorite things to do was jump off the cliff and slide down the sand bank.  I don't know exactly how high it was, but it seemed REALLY high to us kids.  After you jumped and slid, you had to climb back up around the bank, which had stickers on the path, so we needed our shoes to climb up.  Then we would take them off, throw them over the cliff, jump and slide, find our shoes, and climb up again.  Then one year, disaster struck.  When we all got to the bottom, a lot of sand had avalanched down with us and our shoes were buried,  We never did find them and we were in a heap of trouble. We only had the one pair of shoes and we lost them. 

One weekend, when us kids wanted to go to the lake, Jim changed the head gasket on my ‘51 Kaiser. He tore it down, put in a new gasket, and put it back together in just a few hours.   He was about 12 or 13 years old at the time.  He could always fix anything with some duct tape and bailing wire.  He got that knack from our Dad.

He could always diagnose your car problems over the phone.  We could always call him and say my car is making this funny noise, and he would tell you how to fix it.  Once Dennis called him and said his car was turning hard to the left, what should he do about it?  Jim told him the best thing to do was get a really big steering wheel.

I knew Jim always liked to draw and doodle, but until a few years ago I never knew what a good artist he was.  The landscape he painted for our parents is professional quality.  It is better than a lot of paintings I have seen for sale at art shows.

Jim always put up with his older sister's shenanigans with endless good humor.  Even when he said “I don't do silly” he did when we wanted him to. He was always willing to help.  He was always there for us.

I love you grandpa.  I always knew I had my own personal Santa.  You made me smile and I remember going to breakfast with you every time I came out to see you.  I miss you and know you will watch over me.  Hugs and kisses

I found my birthday card from just this year and daddy wrote " I love our memories" I do too!  As your only daughter and the oldest of the 4 of us, I was always daddy's little girl but was taught the same things as my brothers. He raised me to be strong, indendent, compassionate and patient.  I hope that I can raise my children as you raised me.
I remember so many things:
Dancing on my daddy's feet at home and then dancing with him at my senior prom.  
Sitting on his lap driving the super bee as a little girl and then him sitting in the passenger seat of my Fiat, patiently teaching me how to drive in the snow with a bit of his humor.  I am driving down the hill by our house and the roads are snow covered, he asks "are you ready" and then he pulls the parking brake.  Even though my heart was pounding I remembered everything he taught me and straightened the car out.
Watching the painter on PBS painting his "happy trees" then watching daddy paint so much better. 
Moving a house miles and then working on it with him.  Hauling loads of bricks, pipes and wood out of the house and then new stuff back into the house.
Watching the Seahawks side by side yelling and cheering, going to countless Seahawk games despite the long drive.  One time leaving the rest of the family behind after sleeping in the car because of no heat or water, he frantically ran a new pipe to get water and we were off.  Then I remember calling him when the Seahawks finally made it to the Super Bowl and calling him during the big game.  Even apart - always together!
He was always in the stands at every one of my basketball games, going to every event I was involved in.  Supporting me when it was good, bad or ugly.  Always had advice on how to improve or encouragement to keep it up.
Helping me get through my homework, project or being my taster for my foods class.  Then his classic smile and bid daddy hug at my graduation.
I remember his face when I walked through the door the night my friend was killed in a car accident.  They thought it was me-I know now how he was feeling.  I do remember the hug lasted forever.
Falling off my bike and cutting my head open. Blood going everywhere, he rushed me to the hospital (which wasn't close).  At the hospital we were seperated and questions on what "really happened" My regular Dr. came in and cleared it all up stating this man would never hurt his children.
Earning tickets to a Mariners baseball game and like always dad took me.  Turns out that the Beach Boys were performing right after the game.  I got to see one of my dad's favorite bands with him, it was the first concert I ever went to and I still smile when I hear one of their songs.
He introduced me to James Bond, Capt. Kirk, Clark Griswold, Conan the Barbarian, The Duke boys, Darth Vader, and Bugs Bunny.  I to this day still watch these shows and movies.
Part of you lives in me and I am who I am because of you.  You were strong when needed, soft when needed and a wonderful man.  You instilled values: family, life and work in me that I could not have learned by myself.
Daddy you were the best father a girl could ask for, I miss your smile and your hugs.  I love you and miss you so much.  Continue to watch over your "egghead" and her little girls.

Our lives were blessed by this special man. And true they will never be the same.But what he left with each of us, will forever remain. He was kind and patient and a great teacher. He was fair and honest in his work. So much so that he once quit a job because his employer wanted him to cause more damage to a customers car. 
He was friendly and funny and liked to play jokes. And he could do it so seriously and sucker you right in then do that I got you laugh he had. He passed the joke thing to Ryan. But you'll hear that same laugh in all the sons. I believe he left the best of himself in all the kids and probably something of himself with other lives he touched.
He was a part of mine for nearly fifty years. He was a special man,a good friend and the father of my children.
You were loved by many and will be greatly missed--Till We Meet Again

I did not him well, however he raised 2 sons i knew well. And the morals he instilled in them made them great friends. For that i will be forever grateful to him.

"Harris Auto Repair... This is Jim", still echoes through my head everyday. This was the side of my Father that most folks will remember. And while this was such a large part of him, there was so much more. He was a teacher, a counselor, a fixer, a firm reprimand, he was all the things a boy needed, and a friend when no one else was. My Father taught me what was right and wrong, but let me learn the lessons for myself, and that "You can do anything you want in this world, but you have to take the consequences". Taught me to fix things, but made me do it with my own two hands. He shared with me a love for Hunting , Fishing and the outdoors, that stays with me always. He taught me everything it takes and means to be a GOOD man not just a man. I can only pray that I can teach my own children the ways he taught me. He never turned his back, even when he was angry, hurt by, or disappointed in us, instead he forgave and always pushed us to be better. He accepted, even when things were unacceptable. He loved us unconditionally.

So many memories.. Riding home from the motorcycle races, nearly asleep...and the scream, and screaching tires as he locked the brakes to wake me up, laughing so hard at my reaction. Watching him jump from a moving tractor while cutting the field as the bees swarmed all over, cussing them the whole while. He was kind, loving, honorable, and tried to ingrain in everyone of us kids a desire to be good and right in our actions. And Im a much better person for this. He raised all us kids to be strong, and we are, each in our own way. Im so very thankful I had the times with him I have had, and Pray I can make a difference in so many peoples lives as he did. I will never forget your warm smile, and the love that was behind it, My Father, My Friend. I love and miss you every day Daddy, Rest Easy.

We have been Life Mates for the past 33 years.  I was hoping for 30 more, but that wasn't to be.  We had some wonderful times.  It started with our marriage; there was a terrible wind storm in Reno that day and the windows of the chapel actually blew in during our service.  At our reception, while we here opening presents, we stopped to watch Matt riding a two wheeler for the first time.  We celebrated Ryan being top scorer on his first soccer team.  We brought the whole family to watch Luke play All Star baseball while we were at the beach.  And then Angie invited us to her Senior Prom, only to see her crowned Prom Queen.  Your finest achievements are four wonderful individuals.

We did manage to take a couple of trips, hoping to make many more.  On our trip around the Olympic Peninsula in July we discovered snow on a hike at Hurricane Ridge.  The last day of our trip to Cancun was spent shopping for gifts in downtown.  We got on the bus going in the wrong direction and the bus driver had to stop and tell us not to proceed in the direction we were going.  We enjoyed riding the Norton on a Sunday afternoon, and racing home before the State Patrol could stop us for no helmets.  We bought an old farmhouse and moved it 15 miles to our property.  This became a family project for years before we had it fixed up enough to move in.  This is the way you taught your children that they could do anything they put their minds to.  You were an extraordinary Father, Grandfather, Husband and Best Friend….I'll miss you!

I will never forget you. You were the best grandpa ever. I know you are in a better place and not in pain or suffering I just hope you will watch over all of us and keep u all safe. I love you very much and you will never ever be forgotten

I was Jim's friend on Imvu, I also was his Game buddy in many games. I will miss you Jim, you was a great friend and a great person. Rest in peace my friend, and I will see you soon in Heaven.

Dear Jim, the brother I love since the firsttime we met. I love the talks we shared especially when we lost Russ years ago. I remember you drove all the way to Seattle to find out how I was doing. And you stayed for lunch after I said I was not able to eat. For this I am thankful. I am glad that you are there as often as you can whenever I return for your parents and you guys.
Just last week,I thought about you. I thought about calling. But  I did not. Why didn't I listen to the small voice in my heart. What have I done? 
Jim, I don't know what else to say. But, I think you know what I want to say. I love you, I love Kay, and the kids. I hope one day we will see each other again, and we will be smiling. With that, I don't want to say goodbye. Because, you will always be in my heart. My brother.

Family of Jim:  We were so saddened to read of Jim's passing.  He was one of the most honest men we ever knew.  He worked on our 92 Honda Accord and his touch kept that car going for 400,000 miles when we sold it.  We feel honored to have known him.  May his sons live up to his standard of integrity.  God bless this family.

I remember cutting wood with Ryan for Jim to earn some extra money back in high school.I always loved his smile it was just one of the warmest ones I've ever seen,he raised his sons well to become good men,he will be missed by all who knew him.My deepest sympathy to the Harris family.

I am astounded at how many people that man touched. and how important their lessons with him are. its mind boggling. He is buried, at the very place, underfoot, where he taught me how to use a rifle when I was 8. And I mean right there, 10 feet from the place we stood. He was there for us. my little sisters husband took us all in. all of grandma's kids. He taught us, was our friend, and nutured us. I could write a novel! He was bigger than life. A rock star, bigger and taller and greater than anyone man I ever knew". He taught me the most important things about being a man, being decent. He quietly listened to an hour rant, then would say just one epic sentence in his matter of fact wisdom, that made it all seem silly.

I love you Jim!

I will always remember all those times we spent together. Those afternoons at the shop, or the evenings spent talking over a great meal. The conversation was always great. You were a wealth of knowledge, and it will never be forgotten. Thanks for enduring our crazy antics as we grew up, you would just laugh and give us a smile.  Rest Peacefully.

In 1992 I moved in 2 blocks away from Jim's shop. Being a single lady with a Honda at the time, he was a very convenient mechanic for me. After a few years of tune ups and car repairs, I pushed my lawn mower the 2 blocks to the shop. I had bought a new spark plug for it and had no tool to replace it. Knowing how men hate to loan out their tools, I thought I would go to him with mower in tow. Here I come, and Jim walks out of the shop with that look like "we don't do lawn mowers!" I asked if he had a tool to change a spark plug. Boy, the look of relief on his face! He was a very kind and humble man. He will be greatly missed! I feel blessed to have known him. Rest in peace Mr. Jim. My prayers and thoughts to the family.

I remember your kindness to me when I was a kid. You always made me feel important. Your family will miss you I know so very much . what a truly special person you were to me. God blessed everylife you touched.

I will always remember my grandpa as the best hug giver. And I remember alway telling him he was my personal Santa Clause because of his white as snow beard. He was the best grandpa a girl could ask for.

I will always remember Jim's big smile and hearty laughter.  Thought's and prayers with Luke, Kay and family.

Jim had a way of making everyone around him feel comfortable. must have been that laugh and smile. He sure made my son feel pretty special when he let him shave for the first time with his razorless razor and that cool brush to put  on the shaving cream. Remember that Kay. Good Memories....  A.C.

I might have a couple but the one I might be able to post goes something like this minus all those 4 letter words, Jim and I were at the local watering hole, The Brown Shack, he in his early 30's and me in my early 20's since we were 10 years apart, we were shooting some pool and of course having more than one beer in our belleys when a couple of locals walk in and challange us to a game. Well Jim was about all shot out so he declined and headed for the bar to talk to the barmaid. Since I had the table I racked up some cut throat and the 3 of us proceeded to play, about then I noticed that one of the gentlemen had a nice prison tat on his arm, so I just had to ask about it and he said he just got out of the joint.  I had to know if it was true about those bumm boys in prison, well next thing I knew I had both of them circling the table with poolballs in their hands and meaning to use them on me. I looked  over to the bar for Jim, I thought he might just help me out of my predicament, well he had one hand burried in the pickled egg jar trying to get just the right one out of there and he was just kinda flirting a little with the bar maid and I gave him that look like I might be out numbered. He just goes about his business and procures the perfect egg and sets in to watching what I'm going to do. So I decide that I might be in trouble, I grab my stick and invert it so I can use the big end on these two convicts if I need to, well we dance to the right and then to the left.  I give a little lunge like I mean business, and the one says that he really didn"t want to go right back to the joint so we all settle down and have a beer together and all shake hands. Pretty much end of the problem, so later when Jim and I are heading back to the old trailer that you all lived in I had to ask him why he wasn't concerned enough to jump right in and even the odds. He tells me that he thought I was doing alright by myself besides he tells me that he really don't much worry about it "till he has about three guys hanging off his back. True story, love you Bro!

A good  and kind man taken from this world

A very kind and generous man!  Rest in peace. You will be missed.

I'm going to miss Jim's infectious smile and the thought that every time I got to see him I felt like I could still see Russell. He made me laugh and that is the best memory. Love you. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Harris. I did not know you personally, but I know your son Ryan and his beautiful family, and I just wanted to thank you for being his father and giving us such an awesome amazing friend. A life long friend that we are proud to call family ( has well as his beautiful wife Shannon and beautiful daughters Katie and Kimmy). I am sad that your family has lost you, but now that I see your face in pictures, I know you are clearly still with them. May you rest in peace and may your families big hearts heal quickly.

How can I say goodby to my best guy friend==Jim has always been such a great part of my life from nearly the day he was born til now==as a kid and cousins we spent the summers all together almost like two blended familys==Great times at the beach at what is now Fort Stevens State park where we had so much fun and wonder now how we all survived== the great trip in the old 40 ford to MT. Rainer where we nearly got crushed by a huge bolder rolling off the hill== and all of us 6 kids singing "the horse goes around wirh his foot on the ground at least a thousand times while our MOMs just laughed and put up with it all== times spent at South Twin Lakes== fishing with my folks and of course all the young girls at the camp ground flirting like mad with Steve and Jim ==the time the boys caught so many trout that the little Store at the lake took thier picture  and had it on the wall of fame just outside thier door for years, alwaying confiding in each other forever==being there for each other for all the good and bad things we went through==jim took me to our senior Prom and danced with all my friends ,everyone wondering who that handsome guy was== all the family reunions together with all the relatives the fantastic fireworks espically at the lot up by Grayland--Jim loved those fire works==I could go on for a million pages of our time together ==I Love him as a brother ==it is such a sad day to have to say good by== I and My husband Jim will truely miss you!! Gods speed see you in the Here-after with Love, Sis and JIM

I will never forget all the knowledge you shared with your sons. It continues on with the advice they give and the help they offer.
