and Lela Keen on Thursday, November 18, 1926 in Toledo, WA. Ralphs parents moved to Grundy, VA where they raised four boys, Wallace "Jay" Keen Jr., Chet Keen, Kemp Keen and one daughter, Mildred Keen.
Ralph was the last surviving member of his family. Ralph joined the Merchant Marines and proudly served his county by providing supplies to our troops during a dangerous time in history. Ralph met Elsie Grant in Elkton, MD; they were married in 1925 and shortly thereafter moved to WA to join the rest of the family that had moved to WA during WWII.
Ralph and Elsie had one son, Ron Keen who preceded them in death in 1973. The loss of their beloved son
was something that never completely went away.
They also had 3 daughters, Carolyn Keen, Debbie (Cray) Bierdeman and Lori Keen; 6 grandchildren, Mike (Andrea) Dulaney, Eric Keen, Kim (Bill) Yate, Kristen Karboski, Rachel and Lisa Bierdeman; 9 great grandchildren and 1 great, great granddaughter.
Ralph went to work in the woods shortly after moving to WA. He worked primarily for Weyerhaeuser and Agnew Lumber. He was extremely proud of starting his own business out of the garage of his home in 1960 which became Chehalis Sheet Metal & Roofing Co. Inc. He worked hard to build the business and enjoyed the many friendships that he made over the 40+ yrs., counting among his friends, his employees, customers and sales representatives that he met over the years.
Ralph was a proud member of the Elks and The Masonic Lodges in the Lewis Co. area. Ralph enjoyed many hunting trips with his brothers and friends over the years including trips to Canada. He loved any time that he could be outdoors, either fishing, clam digging, hunting, working or growing his wonderful gardens that he loved to share with family and friends. Above all, he treasured time spent with his friends, family and grandchildren. Ralph was quick wilted and loved to joke. He will be remembered for that twinkle in his eye that lit-up when he saw his grandchildren.
