After serving his country in the United States Army, based in Fort Ord, Calif. Wally returned to his family in Centralia and began his long employment at Fuller’s Market Basket Grocery, serving at all three stores in many roles including dairy manager and store assistant manager.
After Fuller’s, Wally realized his lifelong dream of owning a business and opened Wally’s Classic Tavern in Chehalis, where he had a loyal following for many years until pressing health issues lead to his retirement.
He was a loyal brother, favorite uncle and generous friend, but especially loved and looked after his dear mother, Alma Rose Root until she passed in 1987. Wally never apologized for walking to the beat of his own drum. He was gifted in the art of story telling where his tales were sometimes true, sometimes a little embellished and sometimes just plain made up!
Wally was well loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Wally’s final resting place is at Claquato Cemetery
Arrangements under the direction of Sticklin Funeral Chapel, Centralia, WA.
