

Alan Reid Williams, 60, of Charlotte, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 26, 2012. He was born January 28, 1952, the oldest child of Venetia Truesdale Williams and the late Alvin Reid Williams.
He was a graduate of Independence High, class of 1970 and graduated from CPCC in 2010. Alan’s entire career was spent in the printing industry where he was well known and respected. He started as a young man at Belk Printing, then Craftsman Graphics, Washburn Graphics, Cadmus Communications and finally Journal Books.
Alan and Kathy Phifer married in 1978 and were blessed with two beautiful children. Alan was devoted to Bobby and Summer and was always happiest doing whatever his children wanted.
In addition to his Mother and Wife, Alan is survived by his son, Robert Alan Phifer Williams of Greensboro and daughter, Macie Summer Williams of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Pettigrew; brothers; William Williams and David Williams, sister-in-law, Brenda Gray, nieces and nephew; Lauren and Jaime Pettigrew, Tracy Helms, and Joshua Matus; a large extended family and many loving friends.
In addition to his Father, Alan was preceded in death by his in-laws, Bob and Mozelle Phifer.
Alan enjoyed golf, shooting pool and riding his motorcycle. He was a talented poet, an avid reader and had the best sense of humor. Alan was a kind and generous soul. He had great compassion for his fellow man and was always concerned for those less fortunate.
A celebration of Alan’s life will take place at 2:00pm, Saturday, January 5, 2013 at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel 7428 Matthews Mint Hill Rd Charlotte, NC 28227 with Rev. Nancy Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
