It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Bobbie Dutton Dabbs, who passed away on August 13th, 2025 at her home. She fought serious health issues for many years and was under the care of her family, friends and care professionals.
Bobbie is survived by her two sons, Joseph Alexander; Robert Alexander, Kim Alexander (Wife), Brittney Kernaghan (Step Granddaughter); stepson Paul Dabbs, Berit (wife) and Megan (Step Granddaughter); Robert Creswell (Step Grandson); her sweet sister Elsie Akerson; as well as beloved nieces and nephews that she deeply cared for. She was preceded in death by first husband Don Alexander; second husband Roy Dabbs; her parents Robert and Dorothy Dutton; her sister Linda Kimmons and Gary (Husband); her brother Bill Dutton and Jennie (Wife).
Born in Southern Pines, NC to the late Robert Lewis Dutton and Dorothy Cole Dutton, part of the greatest generation who passed on their values of a loving home and hard work to their children. Like her parents, Bobbie and her siblings were proud of their Southern Pines home and she lived a life of strong character and a legacy of integrity and love for her family and community.
Bobbie started working at twelve years old for her father at The Sunrise Theatre. She later went on to work on a tobacco farm and as a bookkeeper while living in Southern Pines. She married Don Alexander and moved to Charlotte, NC in 1965. Her bookkeeping skills landed her a job at Arthur Andersen, a prestigious accounting firm, where she worked for the next thirty-one years as a Supervisor and well respected part of the firm.
After Don passed away, she later got remarried to Roy Dabbs, the brother of her close childhood friend Elaine Dabbs. They shared a love for over thirty years, truly devoted to one another, carrying each other’s burdens, making each other laugh, and watching lots of Turner Classic Movies together. They also enjoyed traveling, going to Niagara Falls, Alaska, and many trips to her beloved Southern Pines.
Bobbie was a giver at heart, she was a caretaker for her parents when they faced health issues and for friends and family whenever a hand was needed. She looked after her husband Roy as he faced a tough battle with cancer, passing away in 2017. She loved her Southern Pines high school classmates and kept in touch with them throughout the years. She especially loved animals, volunteering for The Humane Society and taking care of many cats and dogs throughout her life, most recently her beloved Shiba Inu, Sam. Although her job kept her pretty busy, after retirement she was able to pursue other interests. She enjoyed taking dance lessons, watching true crime television programs and spending time with her family.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 22nd at Midwood Baptist Church, 2029 Mecklenburg Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205 with visitation at 10:30AM and a service at 11:00am.
